Fuck some tube amps.
Find a Sunn Beta Lead for under two bills, make sure it has the footswitch still. Interesting reverb, crystal clean and epic growling dirt. Plus the A/B blended mode will blwo your fucking ear drums out.
Dew eet.
You can thank me later.

Good enough for Buzzo, good enough for you.

You should find some friends/ acquaintances that live near you that can bring theirs over for you to try... You never really know how exactly something is gonna sound until you put it in order... Other than that, hit up a shop when there's no annoying ass hole practicing his latest retro metal accomplishment.

yeah i hit shops up in the morning, take in 3 guitars and a couple pedals of my own.
so far i haven't had much luck.
no silverface fenders, or sunn amps kicking around
the peavy left a sour taste in my mouth, and the jcm runs more money then i want to spend, plus a bit to much growl
tiny terror has a great sound, but i didn't get the punch out of it that i would have expected.
edmonton is a dry spell for awesome deals on gear as well. esp amps

Hmm.. shame you didn't have any luck on the Fenders, it sounds like that's the ticket for you if you need LOUDNESS.
Craiglists?

I have no knowledge of those amplifiers, though I see them mentioned a lot.

They really are terrific. I've acquired a hum on mine that I need to get sorted, but it's still my most used amp. What it lacks vs. the sovtek (which has also developed a hum on the high gain channel oddly) in terms of grind it more than makes up for in terms of versatility. If I could only keep one amp between my Sunn and my Sovtek it would be the Sunn. All of the youtube video's that do demo's of beta leads seem to focus on the crazy awesome distortion it produces, but it's got an amazing warm deep clean that is up there with any tube amp I've ever heard. And the built in spring reverb is very unique though maybe a bit understated.
I owe demos on it, but I'm such a crap guitarist I'd be afraid of turning people off of anything I demo...
"Well shit son, I don't wanna sound like that!"

well if you ever decide to get rid of the sovtek, i'm calling dibs now.
as ideally that is what i'm looking for, but again i haven;t seen any in my price range (or my price range after shipping online)

Sovteks aren't really ideal for your description. The Mig 50 is lacking the dirt you want and the Mig 30 and 60 don't have a clean bone in their body. I'm not too familiar with the 100, but I'm pretty sure it falls in the range of the 30/60. They are 1 trick ponies, you get booming cleans or filthy dirt... but not both sadly, at least not on the same amp.
Even with the awesome custom channel switcher Mike made me I can only go from kinda dirty to really dirty.
They go for redonkulous money these days. Someone offered me 600 for my Mig 60 a few months ago. I wouldn't ever sell it, but if I did I'd have been ripping that guy off.

this would be awesome if it wasn't $700 (or $550 less the cab.)
and nothing in the calgary craigslist.

the sovtek i'd use purely for punk
i've just been trying to get my hands on one for the better part of 15 years.

Oh yeah, Mig 60 all the way then. It was born for that purpose.

Well, there's this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-SUNN-Beta-B ... 3623wt_941
and
http://greensboro.craigslist.org/msg/1300435549.html
They both seem to be asking a bit high in my opinion and they're missing their footswitches, but they're both awesome. The Beta Bass is the exact same amp as the beta lead just without reverb. It even has the channel specific or cross channel accessory loop. The footswitches are hard to come buy but there's lots of online documentation for building your own.
The combos are just as good a buy as the head, being as the head is the same in both units. On the combos just unscrew 4 screws and pull out the handy metal box and attach it to your favorite cab.
There's also this guy, but he's off his fucking head if he thinks his set up is worth that much....

PA135
i wonder how well this would work for my purposes..
ebay wrote:Up for auction is a rarely seen Silverface Fender PA 135. This amp is from 1982 so you could call it vintage [being over 25 years old]. It has the Bassman 135 circuit so you could say that this is a 4 channel Bassman 135. MASSIVE REVERB!!! And loud as H***!! All original with the exception of 2 knob covers [see pic]. Channel 1 bass knob cover and channel 2 treble knob cover are replacements. Same timeframe, just not original to this amp. Knob covers shouldn't be too hard to find. Original transformers and capacitors. And cap cover still has the original rubber damper inside. Only issues are minor. The 2 knob covers, a small scratch on the faceplate below channel 4 and the back plate [original] has a repaired crack in it on the bottom. Also a small corner tear to the tolex. None of these affect performance. Also has the original vented side plates which you almost never see on these amps. And this even comes with the ORIGINAL owners manual [see pic]. I will remove all the tubes and pack them separately in bubblewrap. A matched quad of GT power tubes and a nos GE 7025 as well.
only issue is that dude won't ship to Canada....

One of us could ship it on I'm sure. You won't get much dirt out of a bassman, but if you do your tonescaping via pedals it shouldn't be a problem. My friend brian has a Bassman (and a Mig 50 which really seems redundant) and it warm and rich, but there's like zippy harsh tonez in that thing. Makes shit guitars sound boss though.

my thinking is that its a pa baseman though
but then again that just makes channel switching more fun
and yeah i use pedals for my tonal over lords. over loads?
also the dude with the sunn head in town sold the cab still has the head and is looking for a guitar or a bass.
so that might be a way to go
sunn head

Dude, I'd take a Sorado over a Bassman any day of the week. That's a 60W amp by the way, not 140... still loud and bassy as balls I'm sure.

yeah i figure the kid doesn't actually know what he has
as its a bit over priced. i figure maybe i can trade my ibanez ex for it. or my jagmaster (still not the one you love)
who knows i'm waiting for him to get back to me

Another vote for Sunn. I love my Sunn 100s.
