I'm always struck by the thought that I'm paid to do something almost completely different to these people, but I know far more than them on most gear related subjects, and can at least string a sentence together. Every article I read, I'm struck by what a bare minimum of research they've done - just the tiniest skim of wikipedia. If I was doing their job for a living, I'd make it my business to do it a darned sight better. The only exception to this I can think of is Charles Shaar Murray's column: one decent writer in an entire sector of the industry.

None of them can make a demo worth my attention either. They have no soul.

Guitarist was one of my favorite mags in the late 90s but they've gradually shifted into a very American style mag (aimed at weekend warriors and small children and the like). Their tone setting suggestions always make me laugh... have a real amp? Then you're out of luck.

They caption pics like motherfuckers though. They've got that shit down.

I am totally here...

Yeah that's pretty annoying. I've got P90s in my Jag which I really like, but am considering returning to stock, in which case I would probably send them to Tim at Bareknuckle to rewind to my spec.
