great guitar designs (question)

Talk about all other types of guitars. Jazzmasters and basses go here!

stoner, no.

i only dig them when they are all black though.

Parker Flys are very stratty though, they're just a bit old-man mutant'd (concave back for potbellies, moob-safe top horn). I think it's real design innovations are construction related.

I used to think steinbergers were really uncool but the design itself is pretty great in a minimalist design sense.

I think the PRSes that aren't flamed to fuck and covered in inlays look quite nice. Especially this:

That's someone-or-other's sig model I think. Guy from Uzeda?

Some other interesting newer designs/uses of materials:
Reverend USA, Vacarro, Teuffel, Yamaha RGX-A2 (okay I bought one and other than the construction/finish it was very ordinary)

Absolutely adore the Teuffel Tesla.

Some cheapo builder should rip this off, but they would not sell. Guitarists are really quite a conservative bunch.

Is there a website for the Vacarro guitars, all I can find is a myspace page?

They're long-gone. Sometimes show-up on ebay, but they didn't make too many.

I think it's that "guitarists" are a very large group including many with very conservative buying habits. there are plenty of progressive guitarists but they're balanced by an army of weekend warrior types who just want to pretend they're SRV. so yea, if that kind of mass market is who you're trying to sell to, you will fail with a really progressive design like that. but if you can find a way of connecting with a niche market I think you could make it profitable.

or maybe not. when I think about it, I can't say I'm personally aware of any sizable fanbase for progressive style guitars like that. I dunno.

edit: thought of one. japan. :)

Price is also an issue, most of the newer designs are from small companies & the costs are higher.

That is pretty awesome. BC dont get the credit they deserve amongst the more conservative/classic shape users. The Warlock and Bich neck thru natural models are also beautiful guitars.

I agree BC Rich should give up the daft paint jobs and do some more natural guitars. One day I’ll buy one of these Mockingbirds to help fuel my Guns and Roses obsession.

I'm sure there's got to be at least 1 bc rich design out there I like.

The mockingbird is definitely not it.

Some of the early BC Rich stuff from the 70's is pretty tame, they also make acoustics & jazz guitars in a more traditional style.

I kinda wished i'd taken my BC to Doogfest for people to actual sit and play, rather than glance daggers at over a crowded Music Shop. The build quality has to be admired and they have a great sound.
The natural models are quite tame and have a certain classy look about them, think Keith Levene of PIL with his odd shape Travis Bean, or Tom Dumont and The Edge with their Explorers, or Bob Mould, James Iha and the twat in ASH with their Flying V.. None of these players are 'Metal' but play Metal looking guitars, but essentially still look cool. Its admirable and refreshing.

Admittedly though, i dont like widow headstocks, snakeskin finishes and blood red neck inlays.
