Like I said thought I'll pull things apart and do things properly !!

remove trem plate & dismantle two parts of the trem to get better access to the holes

Previously I was working on it whilst assembled. Just being lazy !!
Image

coil sand paper and gently work the inside of the holes
Image

Since I fully dismantled the trem I could now feel the sharp edges of the holes so sanded the flat part over the holes...
Image

used the enamel to fill any tiny cavities and to line the inside of the holes, not sure if necessary but it was sitting there from earlier on.
Image

Image

strung her up, stretched the strings and did a few whole step bends and so far so good !!!
Image

Some of the chrome is now gone but this doesn't bother me, as long as it operates properly that all I care about.

Hopefully this is it sorted...

THIS.

Stevie Ray Vaughn Did that to his guitars strings because they always broke at the ball end.

Fran wrote:Probably a sharp edge in the tail piece hole but if you have filed it its odd that its still a problem. Friction however is a constant problem on any tremolo, try lubing the holes with graphite or vaseline, using something like surgical tube could be a last resort but seems a bit drastic as does purchasing an AVRI tremolo.
yeah, i had this with a strat trem, i filed it smooth and didn't have the problem. however, if the strings are breaking right at the end near the ball then it could be a bad break angle in the trem. everything can be sorted though, don't worry

Awesome. Good work Dots!
P.S. Dont forget my suggestion of a stickied wiki of each guitar in the appropriate forums. Shad will love it, besides the n00bs.

Seriously sanded, enameled and ta-dah!

Image

Breakthrough!

Should I get me some of them bullets or seriously have a nervous breakdown.

What's with that little unwinding of the string? (or am I just being paranoid, and imagining it up?!)

When I was setting the string up with a tuner, I got it in tune (like E) and then it would start lowering its pitch by like 2 cents per sec.
I Could do this like 3 times before the snap. So I think the wound was unwinding itself slowly when tuning, pretty odd.
