I just love the obvious attention to detail on the photography and their clear love for the instruments, especially the oddball and left-field stuff that we all love over here. So nice it's not just Telecasters and Stratocasters.

I don't think you can just use that type of calculation. These were student models and were clearly more affordable than that.

That plus stores would extend credit to anyone, my then 10yr old uncle bought a strat in '62 without his parents even knowing about it. I think he paid something like $10 a month for it. They eventually found out and ate him, but my point is still valid.

i've got a fender book published in 2000 that states the following:

foam green jazzmaster, 1964 retail: $366.97
(today's money: $2020)
value of 1964 example now: $4000

which suggests they were almost equivalent to an AVRI at today's prices (if you accept their calculations).
