My mate Zambo who supplies pretty much all the decent nights in Glasgow with PA is planning to build a Cabornfibre boxed PA with Neodyne magent speakers. It will be crazy light and efficent and most likely loud too. The idea is to build a PA that can have smaller amps so that one person can load in the entire PA and amp rack themselves. Currently it takes three people to lift the amp rack.

That is an interesting solution Doog, never thought of that. A full valve change and bias tweak, hmm, out of my depth there. I suppose that will knock me back £100.
It's a Marshall DSL401 combo yeah? Becaaaaause, the bias tweak on the TSL/DSLs is a piece of piss, mate- seriously. All you need is a multimeter and a small screwdriver.
yeah, its a 401. Last time i messed with it i knackered a few valves.
Sooo... what/how many of them valves do i need Doog? You can guide me through this and if it all goes wrong its YOUR fault

Factory description: Gold plated control grid for improved fidelity. Special plate alloy improves plate dissipation as compared to the standard EL34 resulting in stable performance at higher power levels.
My observation: This tube has about 20% more head room than the standard EL34 and it also has a deeper, tighter low end. The E34L is also a bit punchier and more aggressive than the standard EL34 which makes it a Great tube for Matchless, Bogner, Carvin, Peavey and all Marshall amps. I have them in one of my old SUNN heads. Incredible sound! The E34L and the JJ KT77 are the only EL34 type tubes that I have found that will stand up to the 700 plus plate volts found in the Musicman HD 130 amps.

that just says that it has more headroom, not that it is louder. i dunno though. as for the speaker the efficiency is measured in dbs as i said above.
You guys got Mesa Boogie MK III's out there? Heads are pretty affordable and the comobos aren't bad either and that shit will peel the pain off the walls for 1x12 combo that weights the same as a couple twins on top of each other...lol.
Thanks for all the help and opinions. I'd like to fix the Marshall up but dont fancy a gamble with my money, if it is'nt much different i'd rather spend the money (not much of it) elsewhere.
For now i'm going to grin and bare it and make a decision later. I had looked at a few valvestate type combos made by Laney, also saw a cheap Peavey all valve 100w combo but im not sure what to do.
