I was just wondering why this amp isn't as loud as I imagined it to be. I can turn the master knob up to 5 and volume up to 6 and it's still pretty much bedroom levels. I couldn't crank the deluxe master volume past 2 most of the time. maybe the tubes are old? or is it just the amp? The power tubes have been replaced pretty recently (and I got spares) but not the pre-amp tubes.

Sounds like it needs a service/retube/rebias, because it definitely should be louder than that.

It's probably the pre amp tubes. shame that i blew all my money on the mustang and I now got none left over. it still sounds pretty great.

doesn't need to be. Guess you talk about the Reverb Channel ; the "normal" channel is not nearly as loud, that would be pretty common. But unlike the Hot Rod, the Twin's volume control is much more useful, so it's not unbearable loud at 2, other than the Hot Rod. Do you overall get it loud, or not at all? Also keep in mind, the Mustang has not much output. I'd try Volume on 8, Master on 3 - should be a little (not much) above bedroom level. Then turn Master up, and at 4 and above it should become really loud. If not, service might be necessary. Maybe it's a damaged preamp tube. That can easily be tried out.

edit: if you got no preamp tubes spare, simply change V1 and V2, and also try a different tube in V6 maybe the one you ripped out of V1 - you won't need a tube in there usually.

This amp does get loud when i turned the volume nearly all the way up and the master set pretty low. I was just expecting it to tear my house down, having so much power. thanks.
