To make a good cue you need a good piece of maple. You know how maple is. You think you have a nice piece of wood than make one rip cut and it warps the fuck up on you. I am not in to overly ornate pool cues or guitars for that matter. But I am all for respecting a beautiful chunk of wood. So if you take a wonderful piece of wood and make something out of it that the person who gets it loves and respects for its beauty than all the better. So if uncle Larry makes birds-eye maple pens for his nephew who in turn thinks it is a treasure; all the better. I think we are on the same page here. I hope to give my curly maple butted pool cue to one of my grandkids in about 40 years or so, same with the some of the guitars that I have and love.
and this is my mini bike ...

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would happily buy a body off you made from any of this wood. That is an awesome find.
I think a pool que would be better than a PRS flame-top ... but acoustics (and shortscales) FTW.

hey! my father has a huge stash of fine circa late 1800's pine logs. always wondered what you can make with them. Fine looking wood, btw. we used alnus glutinosa (relative of alder) that smelled hideous when freshly cutted. Just like a wino who just soiled himself.
