I find playing piano incredibly difficult right-handed. I'm constantly crossing my hands. In fact, apart from the guitar, everything I do is left-handed. I even had to play Cello and Violin left-handed as a wee boy. But guitar never struck me as having to be a left-handed pursuit, and I'm not sure why.

i write, throw, and everything right handed.
it felt a hell more natural playing the guitar left handed, hell still does.
but i struggled through and learned righty, and i do ok.
although if i would of pursued playing lefty then i would be SO much better at guitar now...
if i wanted to learn now all i would have to do is train my left hand to strum guitar and everything, because chords come more natural.

My bass player in high school was a lefty who played right handed basses. She was ok at it, but I believe that she would have had more potential and would have played more skillfully as a lefty bassist. She had trouble with keeping a rhythm on a righty bass, but was on beat as a lefty.
Most leftys do get used to the right handed world because the market of products is very right-biased i.e. cell phones, cameras, even computer mouse controls. On the plus side, a lefty in this right-biased world often becomes ambidextrous which is a skill most of us would love to have! In what I see, besides enhancing her ambidextrous skill and exercising both left and right sides of the brain, the only other plus side of playing a right handed bass (as you and most have said) is that she will have more options gearwise and color choices too which can be important for the fashionable female.
It really depends on her and what she's more comfortable combined with patience and practice!
