Yeah.. that all ties in with Fender's blurb about their version (from Owen's link):
The double-bound alder body and multi-ply pickguard that dressed up the Vintage Reissue '62 Telecaster guitar distinguished it from its Butterscotch predecessor. And rosewood, originally introduced for cosmetic reasons because maple was prone to showing wear, quickly grew in popularity with the warmth it added to the classic Telecaster guitar tone.

Not too keen on the thinline but the '62 Custom looks nice. Not as nice as the 50s CV tele though.

They did have rosewood boards on standard teles (and esquires) by '62, they actually started in '59. The white blonde ones replaced the butterscotch blonde ones.
most have considerably aged to a yellowish colour over the years

Fucking hell that thinline is gorgeous. Imo the Fender equivalent is prettier.
It'd be pretty rad to see a 72 stylie one aswell...

I agree, and it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to do it now between the new thinline and the old Squier Customs they did, though they'd probably put two regular humbuckers in it like they did on those.
