Another reason why I prefer bolt-ons. Replacing a bolt-on neck is almost always cheaper (and always faster and easier) than repairing one.
Mahogany is just too soft for necks. Several years ago, I read that Slash's main LP has had its neck broken 3 separate times. :o I wouldn't be surprised if he's broken it again since then.

Nah that crack was on there from his first break. He sent me some pics when it was advertised before.

I'm gonna opt for a like for like replacement with the insurance (or money for a like for like, if thats possible).

Then sell it. I'm off set necks and Gibson for life. This guitar has been a nightmare since I bought it, I will also try and dissuade any one from buying gibson in the future. Overpriced, outmoded shite.

I've had two Studios in the past, which cost $1100 each. Neither was as good as my $550 MIM strat.

My late friend Martin bought an SG in a hard case when he was over in the USA first time. It went in the baggage hold and arrived in the UK with a broken headstock. Before he died in 2005 it had been repaired twice more. I'm extremely careful about where I put my Flying V (fortunately, less likely to fall over!). I got one of these for Christmas:

I would agree that Gibson Les Paul Studios are rubbish, you certainly don't get good value for money. If I had to choose between a Japanese made Epiphone and a made in the USA Gibson Les Paul Studio, I'd choose an Epiphone every time.

Whenever I ship a guitar, expecting one, or checking a guitar into baggage I always insure them and de-tune them completely wrapping the guitar in bubble wrap. If I am flying with the guitar I put it in a flight case.
Do you slacken off the tension on your electrics when you're not playing them?
I only do this if I am travelling or shipping them. If I am gonna put one in storage I'll slacken off the tension... but I have rarely stored a guitar.

i took my acoustic to austalia and the bastards nearly lost it at heathrow. when it didn't come around the baggage claim (they would only let me take it as hand luggage on the way there for some reason) i nearly had a heart attack.

thankfully some guy went looking for it and came back with it about twenty minutes later.

i also got to see them loading it onto the plane when waiting in the terminal at sydney airport. that fucker threw it on and there was nothing i could except watch and hope when i got home it was all fine. it wasn't fine. these fuckers managed to put a crack in the hard shell case and then they covered it up with a fragile sticker.

i've still got the fragile sticker over the crack. the crack is cosmetic but the sticker serves to remind me to never ever let an airline anywhere near my guitars.

Didn't you try them before buying? If they were worse than mex strats you must've bought real stinkers. It took me a long time to find one I liked.

Gibsons are def overpriced, I never have (or will) buy one at retail.

I played them before I bought them. They sounded good, but they had really poor QC. Excess glue, uneven frets, etc.. Guitars that expensive shouldn't have those problems. One had a fucked up tone pot that I didn't notice until afterwards. I made the shop fix it for free.

And I like my MIM strat! The QC wasn't perfect, but it was still better than the Gibsons. After blocking the trem, it stayed in tune better, too.

Not that anybody cares, but I have several MIM strats. They are excellent and affordable workhorses. Throw some mods in them and they get the job done. I've worked on a lot of sloppy built Gibsons lately.

I think MIM strats are the best deal around. The tuners are great (much better than those shitty Gibson Deluxe ones).

Just pop in new pickups and you've got yourself a professional sounding axe.

I've put a Duncan Custom in the bridge--the one they advertise as being "A P.A.F. on steroids". Neck and middle single coils are rarely used, but I'll eventually upgrade them, too. I just need to get some that are nice and Jazzy sounding.

I'm not sure about Rhys, but I know if I had a serious money guitar that had had the headstock break off twice I wouldn't want to hear a thing along the lines of 'well you should have kept it on a guitar stand or in a case'. Fuck some Gibsons.

And when you have an auto accident you don't like to be told that you should've had your eyes on the road instead of your radio or cell phone. Maybe saying "I told you so" is a bit much, but really, it's only Gibson's fault if they pushed the guitar over themselves. If you insist on not being careful with musical instruments I would go durability over anything on your next purchase.

It's shit design that has been pointed out and corrected by others many many times over, and for the price they're charging it is absurd that it could occur.

And people give Fender shit about cheaping out.
