Yeah, bronco style pickguard.
Will be string through too.

It's gonna be either white or burgundy mist, with white pickguard, that's what I got and I got no money to buy any more.
I'm moving closer to BM though.

Haven't done much on the neck.
Might borow my jagstangs neck, just to get it together
What do you use to curve the edges? I am about to cut out my traced bodies. and not sure what to use to round the edges.

That is some excellent work there! I vote BM for the color. For routing, did you just trace the area and just try to stay in the lines or did you use a template to keep your router where it needed to be?

Taylor:

Roundover bit.
I got mine in a cheap set of router bits. I think it's 1/2" radius.
Really easy to do, just lock the height on your plunge and run it around the edge.
Rather satisfying too. It really transforms a lump of wood into a guitar body!

I notice you're planning on making your own body too.
My first body was ash and was an absolute bitch to cut and heavy.
That body weighs about 9lbs, the mahogany body weighs in at about 4lb!
I reccomend you get 2 body blanks, so if you do a good job have 2 new guitars!

Bear:

I drew my routes on the body and make shallow passes with the router. FREEHAND!
Scary shit at first, but yeilds acceptable results

Thanks. That is really helpful. My brother-in-law sent me two 48" guitar stock boards made from Southern Ash from his lumber mill in Mississippi. I will probably start on a cheap wood and then try it on the Ash.

Dang! free-handing it makes it that much more impressive!

Well, I've had sucess and failure today.

I succeeded at drillng string through holes. And the counter bores for the ferrules.

I bought a cheap pillar drill, and because it hasn't got sufficient reach, i had to build a couple of drilling jigs to drill the holes.
Anyway, the results are pretty good.

The major fuck up was the pick guard.
New blank AND template needed.

NOT HAPPY!!!

haet cutting pickguards. This guitar is really coming together. I'm really into the switch placement, visually that is, I've got the feeling that it'd interfere with strumming.

Goots:
Switch placement will be no problem for me, I normally rest my hand on the bridge when playing.

right on, I guess I was speaking in my playing. This is gonna be killer.

I slapped a load of sanding sealer on the Muttstang body, so i'm leaving that a week to harden properly before i sand it and blow some paint at it.

I got bored and decided to strip my telecaster to refinish it.

The telecaster, was a kit I got from eBay (see DIYguitar.com)

I used different pickups and it sounded really good, but I was never happy with the neck or paint.

I mercilessly attacked it with paint stripper than sanded it

My plans for the telecaster are red paint a new ashtray bridge (string through) and new pickguard.

I'm thinking, one of these:

when you paint it red, leave the binding, that shit looks fantastic.

To be honest, I was thinking about running a router with roundover bit around the edge in an effort to remove the binding.
Also, the plasic binding has taken a beating, being painted, then stripped.
Chunks are missing.

adds mojo..
but then again..
i'm obviously not the person to give you advice on how to make a guitar look factory shipped.
and if its plastic and chipped, round edge will look stellar, and probably feel good as well

Plastic will disappear after he rounds over it. I'd be worried about using a router on it, just cause it's such a mess/might melt depending on yr router speed (unless the gung-ho attitude takes place, then it's all manland from there) .I bet a hair drier/heat gun could take off the binding and make rounding over a bit easier.

I like the binding though, you should step it up with custom binding.

How is the neck going?

I slapped a load of sanding sealer on my body.
Left it to dry, sanded and repeated.
Then blew some primer on it.
Then borrowed my jagstangs neck, just to check everything's in line. It is.
The string through holes are a bit wonky, but wont be seen with the bridge on.
