Is your 90's DuoSonic neck 22" scale or did you mean 22.75" scale?

I've got a CV DuoSonic and a Squier mini strat neck which is 22.75" scale, 20 frets (same as the 90's Chinese Duo if it's 22.75") and it measures out to to be a yes. Some very slight saddle adjustments but it should work.

I tried putting my CV Duo neck on my Strat body, and it totally didn't work. When I bolted it on, there was a huge gap between the butt of the neck and the bottom of the pocket, plus the scale was off. When I moved the neck all the way down into the pocket, it was close; but would've required filling and drilling the neck for the bolts (hardly a "hot-swappable" deal).

Is the current Jagmaster neck more readily "swap-able?" (ie- no filling or drilling required)? I'm actively searching for one of those necks to use for a project (PM me!), and really want it to be a "surprise-free" experience!

I should have been more specific. I'm pretty sure it's 22.75" but I'll measure it later to be sure. It's definitely stock. I got a Japanese Mustang neck from eBay assuming it would just fit. The neck itself seems to be slightly too wide to fit into the pocket and the screw holes are also too far "back" on the neck, leaving the previously mentioned gap between neck and body. What I really want to do is bring a tape measurer, screw driver, and the neck from my Duo into my local music shop and pull the neck off of one of these CV Duos. I think a visual inspection would do it. I'm going to guess that as long as those screw holes are in the right place the neck will be compatible.
I know this is hardly scientific but:


As you can (maybe kind of) see, the saddles line up (more or less for intonation) and the butt of the necks and the last fret line up as well.

I bet it works. Anyone want to part out a CV? I've been watching the 'Bay with no luck.

Don't worry about the screw holes in the back of the neck. You can plug them with golf -tees or something. Or just re drill.

Measure from the nut to 12th fret on the neck. Then multiply this number by two. That is the scale of the neck. Now put the neck in the pocket and measure from the nut to the saddles. If you can adjust the saddles to with in the scale of the neck you should be good to go.

Cool. So I need a CV neck. Anyone have one? Want to trade for a Japanese Mustang neck?

an update to this.
i never got a chance to measure the MIM duo neck nut to butt, but next time i'm at my folks i'll take the neck off the duo i have there and do so.

Jaguar/Mustang neck = 17 3/4" Butt to Nut

Jagmaster/CV Duosonic neck = 17 3/16" butt to nut

not a huge difference but certainly one that makes it impossible to use a CV duo or JagMaster neck on a Mustang/Jag/MM/Bronco/etc.. and vice versa

(note, funny how i'm in the land of metric and i measure everything in imperial..)

Adrian Belew's customised Mustangs were 25.5 scale, he had the neck of that battered stat copied and fitted to them. Plenty of pics of them on the net.

Yeah, I just got a CV Duo neck and it left a huge gap in the neck pocket and totally didn't work.

On the other hand, it gave me idea to customize a body for that neck. I absolutely love the neck and think it deserves a life of its own in its own body. Unfortunately, I don't like the CV Duo pickguard one bit and would want to redo it with rear-routed controls.

How much does it cost to do things like fill body cavities, reroute, refinish a body? It's a lot of work, I know, and I'd do it myself but I have zero tools.

you'd have to fill in the holes on the back of the CV neck and re-drill to place it properly in a different body.
same with the conversion jagmaster neck.

That's why I'd rather mod a CV Duo body.

Ok the question I have is: if you fit the neck tight in the pocket will you be able to get the correct scale at the bridge?

you may need some longer screws for intonation, it really depends upon the body.

Yea, that was what I was wanting to know. With his set up would it work without changes. I did the measurements once on one of my strats and it would be close.

I wanted to clarify the differences between the conversion scale 24" Jagmaster necks Vs CIJ/AVR Jazzmaster/strat 25.5" scales
for a shortscale Jazzmaster build im starting...its bewildering that there are even differences between Japanese build Fenders and American Build Fenders, prob due to the Imperial/Metric scale differences!...

Not a thread hijack as i think its more than relevant, but Sorry if im stating the obvious...Its helping me work it all out in my mind as i write this!..

I think the major problem in all this is whether you can get it to intonate easily, whether you have to move the bridge (drastic), buy longer saddles (strat bridges) or just lengthen the saddles on a tele bridge...
The amount of frets, pocket size and distance from 12th fret to bridge etc will all need to be taken into consideration...

In my case i would think it would be easier to build a body around a conversion neck with a slightly different neck position, bridge position, or slight intonation adjustment dependant on bridge style...
If i was using a conversion neck on another body, i would probably just drill new holes in the neck rather than the body, and use the tooth pick/matchstick and glue method serfx mentioned...

When i offer my CIJ Jazzmaster pickguard upto my 09 Jagmaster, its clear that the bridge position for intonation isnt far out at all..so if i use the Jagmasters body and scale length as a template and the CIJ Jazzmaster pickguard i should be able to pull this build off nicely!
Fingers crossed...

Maybe there needs to be a sticky with a list of what can and cant be done with these conversion necks..plain and simple

have just read thru your post...funnily enuff im using Oak for the body, as i got it cheap off a friend...that's what you were intially using yes!
How far forward are you now?...im gonna start routing everything out tomorrow hopefully...
I agree the necks on cv duos are fab!..mine feels slightly different to my Jagmaster, but im sure its the shorter body length on the Duo...
Parts over here in Blighty are sodding hard to come by!...im after a Jazzy or Jag tremolo and theyre like hens teeth...
