You get to brutally massacre all of the members of either Coldplay or U2 without repercussions.
What do you do?
Oh wow.
Kill Coldplay. U2 surely can't have as long left as Chris Martin has to write pissypant shite.
Actually, why do we even refer to Coldplay as a band anymore? Does anybody even know any of the other members? The individual members of U2 are more recognisable than any of the other members of Coldplay besides bedwetter Martin.
Seriously though, Coldplay are the new U2. Twenty years from now, somebody born in 2008 like me will say "Fuck me, I wish that boring Coldplay shite would just break up and stop making poor records" and some much older guy from my generation will say "Ah well young laddy, thar Coldplay did write some good albums in thar prime, y'know. Thar debut albums and early stuff is much betta than this recent mush!" so that young guy will go and find the original Coldplay albums we're all familiar with and come to the same conclusion as I did when I was given equally false information about U2; their earlier stuff is still shite.
Fuck the shit off with your Coldplay bollocks. I get more aural excitement from the cracking I get in my back when I move after being sat in the same position for too long.

The Edge makes me rage. Touring with 20+ beautiful vintage guitars sent into rack effects to make three notes sound like digital mush. Fuck.
Fuck.
Proof that there is no god.

The Edge is not nearly as good as Jack White or Jimmy Page but I actually thought he held his own when jamming with those guys. They were both in awe of Jimmy though.

Led Zeppelin is bloated 70's rock excess incarnate. & that two piece garage rock stuff that was popular in the early aughties is played out now. the White Stripes are boring to me. always have been.
Coldplay is a great band.
What has Brian Eno got to do with anything? There are loads of people who Brian Eno hasn't worked with. He's only one man, Jesus, there's no need to write off almost every act ever just because they haven't worked with Brian Eno.
Brian Eno has never worked with Brian Eno. Does that make him shit? The Eno paradox.

Nah. This does.

That was some fucking good advice. I think you'd find a great many people who agree with me on that.
And no. Coldplay aren't a great band. While I'll happily accept some of the "bloated 70s rock excess" criticism of Led Zeppelin, and the now burnt-out garage rock scene (in the mainstream, of course, as bands like the Headcoats have been around since forever), the idea that this kind of criticism is being used in defence of U2 is just bizarre. Rock excess? Jumping on musical bandwagons? Shit, U2 never did that!!!

WHAAAAA-?
i'll admit, i'm completely uninterested by his production work over the last 20 years or so, but still... he's brian eno.

Thanks for the great advice guys...appreciate it. I could've asked an easier question ... like how do I sound like Dino Jr, Sonic Youth, etc but I can get that type of tone. Just really wondering about that reverby / dream landscape type of sound as I think it would fit my wife's voice better in the band we are in right now. I just feel that the DRRI is really harsh on the high end...even in channel 2. Maybe the DRRI and Strat together is just too clean. Like after you shit and there's nothing on the toilet paper.

Try an EQ pedal to balance out the high's.
Judging by this LINK he mostly uses humbuckers so the Strat may be too thin sounding without using EQ. Something like a Boss DD-3 should get you into early Coldplay territory, you dont need excessive delay.. just some ambience. Maybe try some Chorus as well.

Thanks Fran. Appreciate it. I have a crappy behringer sitting around that I can use to try and EQ things a bit.

I worked a Coldplay gig just over a year ago. I can't really remember much, though, except that there was a black Tele, a black Jazz Bass, and some black acoustic, all with Vida scratchplates and decals and such on them. There were a lot of effects. There was a lot of everything, truth be told. 18 trucks. Loads of balloons.

How about the well overlooked TONE knob on your instrument? Changing your picking dynamics and rollig off the tone and volume knobs do wonders. Some low output humbuckers might get you closer too. I'm not terribly familiar with what sort of coldplay stuff you're after. If you have a few tracks in mind listen carefully and try and pick out the small details like delays, reverbs, chorus etc

how old are the speakers on your amp...i.e. are they broke in yet. If not, that will make a world of difference.
