To be honest; my opinion of DBA is this:

The build quality is shocking and they charge ridiculous prices.

The End.

I just got a free DBA pedal last month! It's just a feedback loop though. The guy who gave it to me thought he was going nuts.

No i'm not interested in the deluxe model! I just like the standard interstellar overdriver...

This is what I am worried about, obviously I will look at other overdrives before making any sort of descision. The interstellar overdriver just jumped out at me...

i need to look into overdrives a little more-- i went straight to dist and fuzz without much time messing with overdrives
I would have given up already if it wasn't for the impending revolution!

My problem aswell. I went 'holy shit fuzz is so fucking cool' then realised I probably need an overdrive way more...

Just get something cheaper. Buying boutique stuff before you have a good handle on the mass-produced, affordable stuff out there is crazy, because most boutique effects manufacturers are taking the piss (though the 4 prickster kids who listen to the bands who use their stuff wouldn't like you to say that).

Yeah, does anyone think that just that the boss overdrive would be good enough?

Not a fan of the Boss overdrives, or their distortions in general really. The pedal I pretty much always recommend in these threads is the MXR GT-OD. I've played through many overdrives belonging to friends; Boss OD-3, ProCo RAT, Danelectro Cool Cat Drive, MXR Distortion+ (although I guess that's not technically an overdrive...), some Digitech one I don't remember the name of (not the Bad Monkey), and my MXR is by far my favourite out of all of them. I doubt I'll ever feel the need to replace it, the whole of the rest of my pedal board has basically been built around it. It's perfect for me. It does everything from clean-ish boosts to spiky overdrives, with my Tiny Terror turned up loud (with barely any amp gain) I can get some pretty high gain almost metalish sounds, and in front of my fuzz it is truly beautiful.

Yeah, I like it quite a bit.

Really? I assumed it was a Tube Screamer clone because it's green... I'm not a massive tube screamer fan. I just need something warm that can give me a nice range of heavinesseseses... maybe mike could build me a crowther hotcake...

It's similar but not a clone, it's a bit more MANLY. It's a bit more distortiony and can get harsher.

Hotcakes are awesome overdrives. I have haze's MBM box of cake, which is a modded hotcake and a zvex SHO in one box. Its a great unit that works really well for low gain stuff, for more high gain overdrive I use my OCD clone, and im sure tons of people on here would reccomend the dirty little secret, also a great overdrive. But interstellars' are sweet. They have always been in the back of my mind, but im so happy with my two overdrives that im good to go on OD.

Just remembered I'd been looking at getting this for some slightly higher gain stuff a while ago. Further out of Tubescreamer territory, but still not quite a distortion.

To be honest, if you want a well made boutique OD pedal - get Mike to make you one.

I would recommend the Danelectro Cool Cat Drive v1. It's on par with my Fulltone OCD which its a clone of. In some ways I even prefer it more so. Try pick one up used before they become sort after !!! They're now discontinued... but even so, don't buy new Dano stuff... because of the whole 'Prop 8' thing.

I really like their pedals soundwise and lookwise.

@Mike: Have you got photos of their bad building quality? Could you pls post them?

Best bet is to go on freestompboxes.org and search 'death by audio'. There's lots of detail on there. Generally speaking the boards on some are better these days because they're professionally fabricated, but I'm not sure if all of their pedals are made this way.

I had one but sold it last summer, it didn't have much presence to be honest.

Right now I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of a Stomp Under Foot Halo Bender (and a Triangle Muff clone too), I'll try and remember to post a review.
