How expensive should a guitar be to come with a free case?

Pickups, pedals, amps, cabs, combos

Unfortunately, only the cheapest instrument I've bought came with a case; my Godin Exit 22 for about $400. It came with a deluxe soft case that's actually really good quality and well designed. My much more expensive Japanese Fenders (Aerodyne Jazz Bass, Aerodyne Telecaster, '66 Classic Jaguar) came with nothing but a shipping box. It's a shame, but, that's marketing :/

As it is, I got a case for my Tele second hand, still don't have one for my Jaguar, and I have a soft case that I share between my 3 basses that I got with my first bass that I bought from a friend.

i thought all the MIJ fenders came with a fender gigbag, those flimsy ones. i use mine though when i'm taking public transport, weighs much less and takes up less space.
lol i remember going to band practice by train, tram, bus and carrying that bigass fender rectangualr case with my p bass...so heavy...and big. and what also sucked is the people asking you about gear and bands when they see the bigass case. it's less likely to get talked to with a gigbag somehow.

I think all guitars should come with some kind of case. I wouldn't expect a hard case or even a good quality gig bag unless the guitar was £500+, but just something to carry it home/about with should be included.

I had a shop once offer me a black bin bag to put the Epiphone Sheraton I had just bought in to. And others have offered to loan me a bag to take a guitar home in and that they wanted a deposit from me for the bag!

Aye. I wouldn't buy a guitar without asking for a case and a strap. You sort of need them. Paying for a guitar without a case or strap seems like buying a car without tires or petrol to me. You need all these things to get home and play it.

I do remember being kind of chuffed when I got my Jag-stang and it came with a free case, though. I think it's because it was my first new, high-end guitar (I say high-end, I suppose I mean not low-end).

It was hard to give up the rugby quote. That made me smile everytime I saw it. But it's time for new blood.

Besides, I've got my mustang with me at work right now... and it makes me feel awesome to play it.
