i'm just glad i didn't have to go down and pick it up.

Some of the earliest ones made had continuous stripes, so around Jan. / Feb. of 1969. It is unknown how many were made this way, or exactly why they stopped. I guessed it was too much work for Fender to get the stripes to line up at the body edge, but it could have been other reasons. So far all examples of continuous stripes I've seen have been on red mustangs.Auriemma wrote:I never heard of the stripes going all the way around.
When did they do this and how many?
Very early on and very few.Auriemma wrote:When did they do this and how many?
Hey Mark, If you don't mind could you post up a couple pictures of the one you had? If I remember correctly it was in much better condition than the one in this thread.Sven wrote: Some of the earliest ones made had continuous stripes, so around Jan. / Feb. of 1969. fuck I love that guitar...
Bought this about 5 years ago off the bay. It was very clean, had klusons, and a gold decal. Regret selling it every time I think about it.rodvonbon wrote:Hey Mark, If you don't mind could you post up a couple pictures of the one you had? That is so totally cool!Sven wrote:I took a couple shots of the stripes meeting up:
yeah, it'll be really interesting to compare the two.
I don't think I'm going to. The guy said that besides a fret job, this guitar is completely original and I don't think I want to break the solder on it. Having said that, if I open it up and the electronics have been changed then yes it's getting a hotrail :}Sven wrote:I assume you'll be installing a hot rails pickup in yours when it arrives.
Erik, I bet by now you've got enough old original bridge pickups to fill a 5-gallon bucket!rodvonbon wrote: .....if I open it up and the electronics have been changed then yes it's getting a hotrail :}
The first time I sent money to someone from the boards I was super nervous about it. That was like 5 years ago when I bought my compstang reissue from Blane in the Jag-stang days. Other than the US postal service losing the body for about a week and accidentally sending it to california, there were no problems. And it's turned out that pretty much everyone on here has been great to and very trustworthy to deal with. I would be extremely hesitant about sending money over craigslist though.rodvonbon wrote:It came in the mail today!
I'm still at work and will try to get pictures posted tonight when I get home. I must admit, I'm pretty relieved about it. Before sending the dough I did a background check on the guy (it all checked out), but still sending money to a complete stranger is about the stupidest thing I've done in a while.
And that is exactly what I did. Hotrod offered to grab it in person for me, but I ended up sending the money to the guy off craigslist.Billy3000 wrote:I would be extremely hesitant about sending money over craigslist though.
Totally. I would have opted to have hotrod get it for me, I just trust shortscalers more than I do normal people I guess. haha!rodvonbon wrote:And that is exactly what I did. I kind of feel like I dodged one here.
