i'd opt for the first version, personally. (hint: you could probably find a second hand one for a good price)

for reals. that musket pedal sounds fantastic but it really just looks like a muff with a booster/EQ tacked on. you could get the same results with experimenting putting an EQ pedal before or after it.avj wrote:Really, no suggestions of an EQ pedal yet? Okay, I'll be that guy then.
When I use my Big Muff NYC reissue, I put a Boss GE-7 (although, a Dano Fish & Chips or any other EQ will obviously work) after it in the chain and season to taste to better fit in the mix.
An EQ pedal is truly an under-appreciated piece of gear.

true. well I mean, most EQ pedals have boost in them as well. and hey, it'll get you the sound for a lot less than 160 euro.

With the next control you can dial in anything from a (huge) mid cut to a mid boost. Note that by boosting the mids you'll lose the Muff's character; still, it is a very nice addition!
*Replace C1 with a 22n cap
*Replace R2 with a 22k to 25k potmeter (wired as a variable resistor) with a 1k resistor wired in series.

Could you put a wah after the Muff in you chain and click it on and leave it 2/3 open? Or would that sound like ass rather than a decent mids boost? I don't have a Muff to try it out. If anyone has one and a wah I'd be interested to find out if it works.

Lolz, that's a ridiculous idea- you'd need to reposition the wah each time you turn both pedals back on for fuzz. Would probably sounds like a pile of honky shit too, it's a different kind of frequency to your average middle-heavy guitar sound.

Hoof or Blackout Musket are muffs but with better tone shaping.
Or try a Buzzaround -- sounds kinda like a muff but tighter and without all that the scoop.

Would a bass booster help a Big Muff cut through? I've had my eye on The Mole by EHX for a while now, as well as a Big Muff Tone Wicker. I might just leave the Big Muff and go for the Dano Cool Cat fuzz.

if the Musket is too expensive, get a Hoof. I've seen those used for $100 or so, and they're really good muffs.
