i just gave my '64 a once over. Replacing the foam under both of the pickups and putting a mustang bridge on makes a world of difference.

Indeed it can... even the angle you take the picture at can have an effect of the appearance of Candy Apple Red.

Another factor is the undercoat. CAR is a multi-step paint process; the guitar is primered in white, then a metallic "undercoat" is sprayed on - they used to use a silver undercoat, then later (circa 1965) switched to a gold undercoat. Since that's a refinish, it's hard to know for sure what color undercoat was used, but from the look of it, I suspect gold.

i have to replace the foam under my old JM... but the JAg is certainly getting a new Mustang bridge this week.

What sort of foam did you use? Legit stuff or otherwise?
