Don't get me wrong; I do indeed want one of these. I just think I'd like to take the gloss on the neck WAY down. And maybe swap out a Mustang tort guard. And chrome control plate. I know it isn't offset, but maybe it would resemble a "transitional" model that never existed (the missing link between the Duo and the Duo II)?

OK, so it looks as though I will indeed be getting one of these myself- TODAY! :D

I have a guy who wants to swap his as-new Vibe Duo (he didn't like the short neck) for an OBEY Squier Strat that I got as part of another trade a few months back. SCORE! I have never touched the OBEY, so I'm pretty stoked.

I'll post a more educated review than the above one I've had time to really get to know her.

I've played it. Thought it sucked. Weak pickups and sharp frets. Liked the weight of it though. For the money I'd rather have a Mexi Duo. But that isn't saying much either. Had one and traded it back in in like 5days. Guess I'm not the Duo Sonic type.

how would you know if you are or aren't the duo-sonic type? from what i've read, you've not even played a real duo-sonic, you've played two arguably inaccurate re-issues.

Just going with what I've played. Maybe I'd like a 60's Duo. Never played one. What I do know is I didn't like the Mexis and hated the CV. Great shape and all but just didn't like the feel. Rather a Stang . Just my opinion.

What body thickness are these?

I've had a Jag-stang for years, and when I played a Mustang I really didn't like it because it felt so flimsy. I'm used the the extra bit of width, and it's something stupid in my head that stopped me enjoying the Mustang without it.

I played a CV duo, but I don't remember that annoying me, although I only had about five minutes on it and was spending most of that five minutes being stupefied at how nice the neck was.

well, you'll be happy to know that if you like 60's mustang necks, they were birthed on duo-sonics. try one.

What I hated was the overwhelming sense of... plasticity(?). The neck was so over-glossed that it felt like a plastic toy- albeit a nice playing toy. Anybody have a similar first impression? Anyone here buy one and de-gloss the neck?
I would take the back of the neck finish off with steel wool....Get it down to the wood and hit it with 1 coat of tru-oil...Gives you the EBMM feel. Very easy process....The fretboard is up to you,,

So the trade went off without a hitch. Well, aside from the fact that after agreeing to meet me halfway, the guy called after I arrived at our agreed meeting place and told me he couldn't make it- but I was welcome to make the WHOLE drive myself if I still wanted to do the deal. Bastard.

Anyway, after setting the Duo up with my strings of choice (GHS Zakk Wylde .010-.060) I really like it. Plays well, light weight, surprisingly good sounding "plucky" pickups. A keeper for sure.

On an ironic side note, the very next day I scored a 22.5" scale Sep. '93 MIM Duo-Sonic on craigslist for pocket money. The pickguard had been poorly spray painted black, which was a pain to remove. But once it was done, I threw on some flatwound 13's, and it too is very cool.

I've paid a helluva lot more bread for a lot less guitar than either of these. I recommend either.
