The Washburn is very nice, if a a little inelegant.

$700 seems expensive, but the Godins are really great guitars. Two of the best sounds I've ever gotten came in guitar stores from Godin Kingpins.

I've played the 5th Avenue in a (the) local shop here, and it's a pretty spanky guitar... Godin (and affiliated companies) make super solid instruments or a good price. Solid tops, attention to detail, very playable with good tone. $700 for an archtop is nothin', and Godin will keep you happy for years.

There are some things that make you lol, but this made a wry smile appear on my face about seven seconds after reading, which stayed there for a good minute.

I don't think this Godin archtop is a solid carved top. Just so there is no confusion. I'm pretty sure it's pressed laminate.

Doesn't mention anything about it being solid. However, almost all of their acoustic models are solid tops, so I assumed. I'll be picking up a set of strings for my Jag in a couple hours, I'll take a look at the f-holes when I'm in.

EDIT - looks like they sold their 5th Avenue, couldn't check.

Just resurrecting this thread to say that I played a 5th Avenue yesterday and was blown away.

I don't have a good eye for spotting the difference between laminate and solid tops, except to say that the Godin still featured a grainy texture and looked like it had a satin sort of a finish. It didn't look plasticy and shiny like my Epiphone does. I assumed this meant it was solid?

It plays really nicely but what surprised me was the volume of it. Definitely louder than my Epiphone despite being much smaller. It seemed the higher strings projected really well over the bass stuff my thumb was playing. I hate people saying that acoustic guitars sound musical or that they like to sing, but this did sound musical like it wanted to sing.

Didn't get to try it plugged in (it was the one with the P-90 in the neck rather than the pure acoustic model) but acoustically it was excellent. Really good guitar.

BUT there's a lot of people here who buy stuff because of artist connection dude, some people even rub food/drink on their plastics or bury shit in the backyard and dig it up again like a damn voodoo aging ritual, so go crazy and don't worry about it. Godin 5th Aves are fucking class.

wow, that was years ago.. to think of how much my music/gear taste/life has changed, haha. these are class guitars though, although I am glad I kept my jaguar and didn't trade it off for one. I couldn't imagine my music without that guitar.
