After seeing Malkmus play again I'm probably going to go back on a hybrid picking kick again.

I used mostly Shortscale purples, but have recently been liking going back to a bit lighter and using Dunlop Gels - M/L.

Shortscale blues and greens.

Shortscale Yellows. I'm running low though, I lose picks alll the time.

The lone ShortScale green pick that Mike sent me. It sucks that I was dirt poor right around the time we ordered those, I would have ordered 100 and have been set on picks for quite some time.

For leads it's all about Jazz IIIs, everything else it's a fender/dunlop medium

I got into Jazz III's during my shred days and I just don't find big picks comfortable.

Been rocking the ultex ones for a few months, its just a shame theyre so bloody expensive

those thick jazz ones they're ok but i always found them too small, using them on bass when i was playing lead parts and fast stuff i sometimes had my wrist block and then i just lost them, doesn't happen to me with the nylons because they're bigger and have more grip on both your finger and the strings too.

a guitar player i know swears by these stubbies, he's been using them since high school



i think it's big stubby. he gave me some and they're nice and good grip for your finger but i need the grip that nylon picks have on strings.

.60mm picks (tortex orange, fender delrin, jackson black bomb)



Also got these Dunlop "ultex" and "the wedge" picks which are also .60mm but feel thinner/thicker respectively as they're made of different stuff or shaped differently.

I used to use 2mm picks as a kid, dunlop 500s that were the thickness of a nickel. I also used 9s at that time. Pretty baller.

These are what I ALWAYS use for guitar.


If I'd been posting at the time, I'd have got some Shortscale ones but alas, I'll settle for Turtle-action.

When I first started playing guitar I had some kinda 0.7 Gibson picks, then yellow Dunlops (which I chose just cause they were the kinda 'in-between' gauge), then reds (purely cause I procured from my School) then I settled on the Oranges after a few months, which are perfect. I'm never changing!


For bass I'll either go for the blue or purple tortex. I've used the Big Stubbies a few times, but purple/blues are my favoured choice.

i used the big stubbies on bass but they always broke, other pics too like the california one sor dunlop ones (the blue thick ones with the crocodile on, and also 2mm black one...they broke) the nylon ones are flexible and they don''t break.

That tin is genius! Where did you get it? Would be a hell of a lot cooler to have something like that then the lame 'really useful box' I'm using at the moment.

i have a picks box with an indian on it and it says 'black apache' ..but he's not black. and also a small box that says 'timmermans kriek'

Yellow Dunlop Tortex .73mm the only picks ill ever use.

I’ve been using Dunlop 500 1.14mm picks for years. But I really like those Dava Control Picks, but I don’t see them in stores too often.

On the subject of Stubbys, a guy I knew growing up used to swear by them, saying that they (on electric guitar) decreased the distance between the strings and rolled off easier. They feel too big for me.

Thom sent me some shortscale parples and they feel great, i usually use green dunlop tort or anything thick and heavy.
Used to use thinner picks with are great for Thrash rhythm but gash for lead work.

I use some kind of unmarked Jazz picks.


I'm not really sure. They're thick, short, and stubby. I dig them
