Except for the F tuners instead of the Klusons, and a non-matching headstock, that's what mine originally looked like - competition red with white / cream stripes.
However, the neck is in near perfect shape, so I'm not going to refinish that - I'm going to leave it factory stock.
I considered doing it in candy apple red - essentially the same thing as competition red, minus the stripes. I think the stripes look ace, but I doubt I have the painting chops to do a decent job on them, so I won't be attempting that. and since I'm not doing stripes, I figured, what the heck, I might as well paint it whatever color - it's not going to be "factory stock", or the "original color" anyway.
According to a UPS email notice I got last night, the fiesta red paint is apparently arriving today. Of course, we're now in a heat wave and humidity is going up, so it might be a few days before I can get started... it will all depend on the weather...

I really like CAR a lot too, but it's a somewhat tricky / difficult color to paint due to the two part process - you have to spray a silver or gold basecoat, then you put a transparent red over the top of that. You have to get that overcoat of red on there really even, because with each additional coat, the paint color gets a bit darker. It's not always easy to get it even and not make it look blotchy.iCEByTes wrote:

But I do love the color. Here's some pics of my CAR Telecaster:

Thank you. It really plays and sounds great too.
I have one more thing I need to do to the Tele. Since it has a "swimming pool" route under the pickuard, I am going to put in a third pickup (Duncan hot stacked strat, no poles), but "hidden" under it so it's invisible. There's a push / pull volume pot that I used to have wired to put the pickups out of phase, but I'm going to use it as an on / off switch for the middle / extra pickup; that way, I'll be able to add it to the other pickup settings at will, and can still keep the stock 3 way switch and standard Tele pickup settings too.
I got started on the Mustang. The weather actually cooperated, so I was able to get working on it the night the paint arrived, and I am now in the drying / waiting phase. One can BIN shellac primer / sealer, one can ReRanch fiesta red nitro, three cans of Deft gloss nitro lacquer:

That SFG Duo is my baby... it has quickly become my #1 guitar. I reach for it before anything else nowadays. It "fits" me better than anything else, it's light, resonant and has great balance, a fantastic neck, and it sounds pretty fantastic too. The AY CS pups probably don't hurt.

Yeah, it seems pretty massive - but it appeared to be stock. The front contour seems pretty mellow / subtle - especially in comparison.hotrodperlmutter wrote:dude! that contour is huuuuuuuuuge.
It's kind of hard to see the shading of the pickguard in those pics, so I tried to get a close up of it to show the real color - which is somewhat yellowed, and in person, it looks great against the fiesta red IMO.
