What about that SILENT feature they have? Is it any good?
mine stopped working on me. the neutrik one that is, but i believe other people on here have had better luck with them
Hm, I'm gonna pass the SILENT stuff and buy the standard ones just to try them and see if they last.
The price is very attractive. Even if they stop working I'm not going to lose 40€ :)

And I recently switched to Monster cables for my long leads from guitar to board and board to amp. Lifetime guarantee, i get them fairly cheap through work but I wouldn't mind paying the full price.
yes, do THIS. i have some monster cables in my arsenal that have seriously lasted well past the 10 year mark. it's reassuring that at any time i can take them to fucktard center and get an exact exchange, no questions asked, forever. cutting and making my own cables was something i might have been interested many moons ago, but i don't have the inclination or time for it.

However I do and reading this thread has made me decide I may as well, I've done it before with cheapo cables. So I'm ordering 16m of klotz cable and some neutriks at some point :)

Its because I left a bunch of my good cables at a gig a couple of months ago and I've been using cheap shit ones ever since that keep breaking.

I've been looking at studiospares they look pretty cheap and they have a HUGE range. I've just used soldering iron, solder, sponger etc.. and adjustable cable stripper. Might get that tool that holds the components whilst you solder as that'd make it a bit easier to do.

In my experience Planet Waves were really easy to get replacement cables from. I've had 2 cables crap out on me and I contacted the online shop that acts as UK distributor, I had no receipts, and I returned them to them and they sent me replacements plus a free T shirt each time. I even asked if they could send me replacements with right angled jacks and they did with no extra charge. The cables I had that broke were their budget ones, i've since moved to their more expensive cables and i've had no issues at all despite practicing and gigging regularly with them for over 2 years.

Thanks for the tip off. I'm sort of in the mind set now that it would be great to have the kit available to make my own. From their catalogue what stippers would you recommend?

I might see if I can get a replacement for mine now! Did you need the packaging or anything?

I know jack about making my own cables but after reading all the stuff in this topic I'm thinking I maybe should just make my own.

Otherwise, I can recommend Bullet Cables if you want Curly Leads, and Cleartone are great for the price too.

For the tools I bought mine from Maplin, these ones actually:

Rolson Wire Stripper

Needle nose pliers help too and de-solder pump

This could be a help too:

I bought Venom cables, chopped them up and put Neutriks on them. It seemed to be the cheapest way of buying reasonable cable.
For cheap pedal-to-pedal cables with metal connectors I used Maplin's cheapest right-angled jack plugs, but I wouldn't recommend them, they're tricky to solder.

As far as I remember no packaging was required as I don't tend to hang on to packaging. It would seem a bit anal if they insisted on packaging being provided, especially as there is probably Planet Waves logos all over the jacks so no doubt as to who made the cable.
