Duo-Sonic, offset?

Apart from the patent thing I was asking myself the same question. Interesting graphics, though.

It's the waist - at least according to Fender - that determines if something is an "offset body" or not. It has nothing to do with comfort contours on the back (tummy cutout) or forearm.

The late '64-'69 Musicmaster II's and Duo Sonic II's are offsets. The '56-'64 models technically are not; nor is the current reissue Squier Classic Vibe Duo Sonic. The 70s era Music Masters and all Broncos and Mustangs (regardless of era) are. Strats and Telecasters are not either. If it's an offset, it won't take a "string test" or any fancy geometry tests to tell - you should be able to tell the treble side and bass side body contours at the waist are asymmetrical with even a fairly casual glance at it. If it's only subtly off, then it's not an offset body.

If you look at a original 1965 Mustang neck (and I just happen to have one sitting not ten feet away from me as I type this...), you'll see that exact same "Offset Contour Body" decal on them. The only thing is... Mustangs didn't HAVE contoured bodies until the release of the Competition Mustangs in 1969. They were offsets, but they lacked the tummy cutout and the forearm bevel that are necessary to qualify as "contoured" bodies.

Even Fender got it wrong.
