if he's just playing it around the house it's probably not that bad, i find it's when they're cranked and you actually want something resembling a bass response that they start sounding gash. but then, plenty of fender amps are like that too.

think we have the same problem.

You'll always get that with Combo's, its as much to do with the Drivers and construction as the actually circuitry imo despite some being notoriously trebly.
Incidently, anyone notice how a head and 4x12 at home volume sounds too bassy with not enough definition?

I used to use a Peavey Windsor half stack as my main amp, was so stupidly powerful I never managed to get it loud enough to sound really good, but at home it sounded like someone was covering the speakers.

I have a similar problem with my AC30, it sounds terrible at home but as soon as it gets cranked up to gig volume the high end returns and it sounds amazing.

my tweed is the reverse, great at home. not so great live. dirt wise is ok, but no oomph and cleans just get too spanky and not full enough. though i've been amp hunting today. thinking of a hayden mofo head.

Up to a point I suppose, but I have the JC120 which can handle extremely bassy fuzz without shitting the bed.

I like haydens, and a little bit of trivia, on my work experiance I was working at one of the first shops to start stocking hayden amps. The main product designer (I think - he helped design the mofo and designed all the cabs) brought the prototype hayden mofo into the store for us to check out. This was before it had even been anounced or anything.

That was a cool day

He's a friend of the workers at that store, they'd even been to his wedding.

Anyway thats me sounding like a tool, the mofo is a nice amp, especially when used with a good cab. I really liked the overdrive sound, it was nice and thick.

Mofo>2x10 cab (re-wired to 16ohms and maybe a back panel on it)= sorted! if it's not loud enough for gigs, i can bung it through the PA.

Definitely get a closed back cabinet if you're after consistent low end at decent volumes.

It does fairly well, I was looking to buy one when I stumbled across my amp. They only drop a couple of hundred, not like half their value. When I was looking to buy one they were about £450+ depending on condition. I don't know if that has changed though.

Id say go for the mofo Stick the fender on ebay maybe?

The tweeds are a bit more desirable from a 2nd hand point of view (I think). The first issues certainly are. I'd aim for £400 for it, maybe.
