marr is a good guitarist no doubt. and I like his stuff with the smiths but where he gets this rep of being this legendary virtuoso guitarist I really can't figure out. I think it's gotta be a case of the british music press, in their normal hyperbolic fashion, blowing his legacy way out of proportion.

I like Marr.

Apart from Modest Mouse, I’m not really a fan of the bands he has been in, but I like the way he thinks about the guitar. He comes across as purely about making music.

No. I think it means he can't use the rhythm circuit. If you don't use the rhythm circuit, that's a good option but I hate that there are useless options on the guitar.

Personally I found the high pass switch mildly redundant

There must be some way to just integrate that into the tone pot

Sounds good to me, as I’ve always thought there were too many switches for my tiny mind to handle. but no doubt it’ll cost stupid money...

I know absolutely nothing about Johnny Marr, but strictly looking at his guitar I listed the good and bad:

Good:
Nice color combination
4 way switching (similiar to Baja Telecaster) - series option on a Jaguar would be awesome. I love the traditional Jag switches, but the 4 way switch is quick and easy to wire.

Bad
Moving Hi Pass Filter to upper bout (eliminates the rhythm circuit) - I wish they could extend the switch plate to fit the hi pass filter switch next to the 4 way switch so it wouldn't eliminate the rhythm circuit by having to move the hi pass filter up. If they made the plate like a Bass VI, it would have room.

marr has did nothing more than make a bunch of weird noise with the guitar and copy everything that The Cure, Talking Heads and Porn for Pyros ever put on a record (just to mention a few).

Fender is just jumping on the "Ima throw out a name (band or player) that you dont know.. just to be a cool cock". and yeah, Just about NOONE knows this cats name.

Obviously no, but nobody thinks "The The" when they think Johnny Marr, so its a moot point to even mention it.

I don't even really see the Cure eithier, especially when its easy to write of Robert Smith as a Siouxsie ripoff in the earlier stages of his career, and furthermore that jingly jangly crap come from people like John McGeoch when he was in The Banshees.

Hanging Garden don't sound like a Marr song to me. Just sayin.

whats your point?

Mine is this- Marr (IMO) has no buisness with a signature model guitar when there are so many guitar players that have really changed the way people go about playing and listening to music. AND that Marr hasnt really did anything that I havent heard a million times before

Im not going to go into a rant about Robert or any of the McGeoch crap- dont want to HiJack the thread.

My point is there is far far worse people they could be giving one to.
Its not like Robert Cray did anything that you can show as a prominent influence on anybody really, but his hardtail strat is okay.
People namedrop Marr a lot though.
Nothing to bitch about

whether or not you think marr's had an influence on people (in the uk he most definitely has), he's been playing jaguars pretty much exclusively since he joined modest mouse however many years ago, and fender are obviously rewarding him for the advertising.
