Frankly, I think it's fantastic people aren't just going to their local store like they used to because in a lot of cases those stores would feed you lies, half-truths and hearsay all while charging you too much for the product. The internet providing the information it does has it's downsides, and more so than the vistas a lot of old gear (mostly cheap stuff from the 60s) has increased in value disproportionately to it's quality. Mostly though, it's one of the best things to ever happen for someone looking to buy a guitar.

Good point . Haven't thought of it that way .

excellent thread.

does anyone know what necks are on these in terms of profile? are they same necks as Jazzmaster/Jaguars/Strats for example? i can't imagine they would have put extra cost into Jagmasters by making a unique neck design..

mine's a silver flake 25.5".. (modded with duncan jazzmaster quarter pounders)

i would describe it as a mild version of the more modern "C" profile, similar to MIM stratocasters.

These "conversion" necks on the latest version: can we confirm that one could use this neck on a 25.5? body like a Strat or a Tele and convert the scale to 24"? Because that would be cool.
I have a Squier tele thinline 24.75" conversion neck on a different 25.5" body, and it works very well.

i believe it was serfx who put his jagmaster neck on a tele body, and was able to make it work. then i think he put a tele neck on his jagmaster and made it work with no issues?

i'll see if i can confirm this.

EDIT: OH! OH! Great thread here.

My experience has been that strats with tremolo bridges do not have enough range in the intonation adjustment to accommodate the 24" "conversion" necks (and have proper intonation). However, a tele (or a hard-tail strat) should work fine because they have about twice the amount of range in the intonation adjustment.

Hotrod, you said Jagmasters have a modern C shape?

Is that referring to the Vista's 25.5 scale, or current ones?

I have a jagmaster I love and want to mod into a beast, but I can't get on with the neck that well.

i was speaking in terms of the 25.5" versions. the necks are very similar to my MIM stratocaster in profile.

the vista is a vintage jaguar profile, whatever the fuck that is?

I swapped my 25.5" Jagmaster to Jazzmaster pickups. My first build. I will have to make a Jazzmaster to replace her one day soon.

I am trying to find a black pickguard for cheaps but it seems impossible.

Everyone wants 40+ and wants me to send a tracing. Other than Jeannie, he can do for 43 bucks and a measurement from neck heel to bridge.
TO LOOK LIEK THIS : Image

I'm considering getting a black pickguard with no bridge pickup hole, and make it a jagmaster....?
But asking Jeannie to do something complicated (OH NOEZ) sounds like a band idea.

One of these days I plan on making pickguards, I just don't have the tools at the moment to be able to start.

Yeah it would be swell to have someone on the board who makes things. Didn't someone in the days of lore?

Sparky used this strategy.

so, we all know not to assume that tort pickguards would be cut from some one-off, or random sheet, but i did notice that in the case of brown vista jagmaster tort, it's a bit more obvious.

yes, benecol. i'm aware that this would be a similar post as changing strings, but i was a little drunk when i discovered it and felt it to be such a powerful find. like figuring out your pants have pockets, and you've put things in them (not in a useful context, by any means). plus i didn't start a new thread.

i plan on making my own strings one day.

i'd never have expected to see a matching pattern like that, shows you how things have changed production-wise (unless they're coincidentally sliced from the same piece of material, rather than printed- the chances of finding matching guards like that would be infinitesimal if that were the case).
