For drums, right now I use Peavey PVM tom mics on .. yeah, the toms, two PVM Kick mics on the kick, an SM57 on the snare w/ AKG condensers overhead and a behringer C2 on the hi hat into a newly acquired Korg DR888 (strictly for drums!), and mixed down from the Korg into a BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer to my PC.

For guitar I try whatever works. Usually I just place the mic where it sounds best, dial in my tone and go from there. I like catching the raw tones. I use two SM57's in different positions on the cab and work with that. I EQ guitar then only in the mastering stage of recording to keep it raw where sometimes the maximizer is again put into place.

Bass I've always had some trouble with but I generally DI it into the mixing board then into the PC. Lately I've been trying some micing tricks but I haven't been overly successful. Any tips in that area are welcome.

Vocals are a pain in the ass, but I just picked up one of the Samson C02 USB condenser microphones, seeing as I do all my final recording through PC, this actually works great. Elsewise I usually just use the AKG's again.

i've had fun on my ghetto rig running my drum machines through a fender solid state amp and adding rediculous sounds to the beats. good times.
