all the best fuzz sounds in my head sound like they have a kazoo and a hoove mixed in

yeah, i gotta agree with most of the folks who posted. that sounds very uncomplicated. . . neck pickup with some type of drive, probably a fuzz. i was expecting a curve ball with like reverse delays, stereo chorus, and an auto whammy/wah with a splash of sitar.
oh and assassinate the frontman as soon as you can get around to it. he pretty much had the vocal equivalent of shitting dongs pouring out of his face the entire time i heard him. in fact, that might actually be the sound i think of when i try and conjure what a shitting dong would sound like. fuck him completely into his own ass.

fuzz factory for the gated quality.
something like a buzzaround with humbucker and guitar volume roll back.
tonebender MKIII set lower gain and guitar roll back can be gated too.
aside from the gate, any mid honky overdrive pushing a amp can sound like that
I'd also say bridge pickup, tone rolled down. Maybe volume down too somewhat.

Titus Andronicus are one of my favourite bands right now and I actually got to meet Patrick Stickles a few months ago at their show, like said above I think he just uses a NYC big muff maybe with a booster live. There's a making of the album documentary on youtube too where the NYC muff is shown.
