Srsly. When I went to put a P90 in a project tele I went to ebay>search>"Duncan designed p90">BIN $14.
This may be a stupid question, but withthe P90's will the VM Tele sound too much like a Jazzmaster to make it worth me buying or is the sound completely different?

Jazzmaster pickups are not P90s.

Yes I know but that doesn't answer my question which was whether or not the sounds of a tele with P90's and a JM would be in the same vein or completely different?

Completely different chap, i've owned several Jazzmasters and a VM Tele. I'd say the VM Tele is heading more towards LP Junior territory, its got that P90 bark and the no-nonsense bridge and slab body help sustain.

Thanks Fran. I think I should probably go and try these guitars out to decide which would best suit what i'm after.

Definitely. Them CV's look nice but you cant write the VM off, they really are good for the money.

i know this isn't the same guitar, but if the squier VM could be made to sound like this one with a bit of tweaking it'd be worth a punt.

I own a CVC and love it. I could have bought a CV50s last night for $250 but passed on it because I'm satisfied with the Custom. The Custom is HEAVY! The 50s is made of pine which is a fairly soft wood and the Custom is alder which is very dense/heavy. The Custom has a nice rounded sound yet still retains the tele twang where as the 50s is all tele vibe.
Needless to say I'm a bit biased. Love me some P90s, don't get me wrong, but Teles have a place in my heart.

Would it be crazy to trade my LTD Viper 400 for a VM tele with p90's? The viper has got a lot of marks and scratches and the squier is supposedly as good as new.
I used the viper a lot when I played in this metal band some years back, and now Im just annoyed with it..

aen wrote:The VM is an amazing guitar, I will never ever sell mine, and I use it allllll the time. The 50s CV is really great, too. Quality control is pretty whack on the VMs though, and Ive never heard a complaint on a CV.
you're a bit of a tele guy ain't you? show us your teles...

The CV Custom is way lighter than a Mexican Tele.
Have you owned both? iiiiiiiiiiiii have.

Have you owned both at the same time and done like for like comparisons? iiiiiiiiiiiiiii have.
Rod gets it, but yeah, I didn't weigh them on scales but the Mexican is heavier (a touch deeper body I think). The CVC is actually lighter than my Squier Strat (full thickness, solid wood). I'm not trying to say heavier means better by the way.

I had the VM p90 in blonde but for some stupid reason decided to sell it for £90 (I was broke and in need of bus money for college but it's definitely a regret). The new owner was in a punk band and made it into this:
