Everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is what i said.
A HH Fender is a HH Fender, i dont care what scale it is and its never gonna be a Les Paul but if your gonna do it try to do it right.

The Vista Jagmaster i had was a good guitar because it has a CIJ Jaguar neck but the pickups were garbage compared to the Duncan designed 59 and Pearly Gates in the Toronado.
The HH Jaguar i had was sonically lacklustre, i even modified it to single coils, yeah really, does'nt say much for a HH. Decent player but a bit of a half arse design.

If you are gonna 'rock up' a Fender then the Toronado GT wins for me. Jumbo frets, quality pickups, flatter radius and mahogany body (arguably 'better').
well, opinions are all well and great until you're matching physical attributes that make up each guitar.

the duncan pickups that were in my MIK toro were decent, but i much prefer the vista tone pickups, rounded radius, forearm contour, and lacquered neck. opinions are like assholes, which explains why yours smells like shit and has a brown pigment to it.

How are they overrated?
Like, what comments are you encountering that lead you to that conclusion and how do they compare to your own observations?

How much is a Vista worth nowadays $500?
Let's see what you're getting...

MIJ Jag neck.
Standard Strat trem
Decent tuners
MIJ-level QC, fit and finish
MIJ-level pickups (remember the Jazzmaster and 69 RI Mustang pickups?)

I'd say that sounds about fair.
True, some of that cost can be defaulted to their scarcity but hey, people aren't pawning them off three months after they buy them, must be a reason for that...

They are . You really think a Vista holds a flame to a Jazzmaster of Jag ? They're food but well not worth what they're going for on the street . And personally don't hold much to a Toro . Surely they were made in Japan . So what . So are Daihatsus .
The necks are good . I'll give you that . Fit and finish ? Meh . Pickups ? Um. No . They suck . I have a 69 RI Stang . Let's not go that route . I've heard Duncan Designs sound better than Vista pickups. I've owned a Vista Jag a few yrs ago before people started going all ape on them . It was good . Especially the neck . But to my Toro I don't really think it was as great . Maybe having a trem made it somewhat more versatile . We can go all day on this Vista thing . Always wanted a Super Sonic till I got one . The Jag was better . Leaps and bounds . Wish I had them at the same time to compare.... And prolly a good reason Fender stopped making Vistas was that a lot of people thought they compared to the Fenders .
Maybe it's just that I buy , trade and sell guitars so much that I compare them wrongly . Who knows . All I know is I had a nice red one and it didn't make me all ga-ga . Had it 3 months and traded it for a Tele . Oh and BTW there's a few good reasons Fender put their truss rod adjusters up top instead of keeping them at the bottom... Thankfully I never really needed to adjust my Stang as of late ...
