I love the headstock on my ovation tornado....except for the fact that tuning the D and G strings feels a little cramped with the beveled edge coming out like that.
Rickenbacker headstocks are always my favorite though....but if I was going to do a custom build, there's a good chance that it would have that teisco headstock posted earlier.
As with 6-aside headstocks, it really depends on the body style. An explorer headstock looks great on an explorer, but would look shit on a jazzmaster and vice versa. The large epiphone headstock is cool, but only suits the semi-hollow style and acoustic stuff.
6-a-side headstocks that make a nod to Fender but try and do something a little different almost always look clumsy. Mostly, the same doesn't apply with Gibson and 3-a-side. I think there's quite a bit more room to try something similar but new.
One thing that can define how flowing a 3 a side headstock looks is the line the strings form as they go from nut to tuner. There are plenty that look clumsy because the tuners are too widely spaced. The Ibanez Artist and Martin headstocks both have nice lines in that sense.

Yeh, they are really good quality guitars. Same factory Japanese factory that built the law suit Ibanez Les Paul. My Flame only cost $200. They still make the Esprit, at the US Custom Shop for bout $5,000+ under the Robben Ford name.Richard wrote:I never noticed that the truss rod cover on the Esprit matched the headstock. That's actually really cool.
