Important point of fact that's been bugging the shit out of me all the way through this thread:
Sunn 0))) are a doom band, who look cool and are great in concept, but a little bit overrated really.
Sunn make ace amps (and later, shit guitars).
Walking into a shop and saying "Cor, I like that Sunn 0))) amp!" is akin to saying "I love those Mustang Sally guitars!". So stop it.

and if you're going to use Sunn O))) in conversation just make sure to pronounce it "Sun Oh Close Parenthesis Close Parenthesis Close Parenthesis".

The O))) isn't present on all releases or merch, the band is really just called Sunn.
Funny story, the name is actually inspired by the band Earth (who they felt their sound was extremely inspired by). They originally were calling themselves Mars, then changed it to Sunn as a double homage to Earth who is well known for using Sunn amplifiers.

This reminds me of the 'n-e-s' vs. 'nes' thing. I don't know if one of these was ever officially stated as the correct pronunciation. always stuck with 'n-e-s' though.

To make matters worse, there is an amplifier manufacturer (who to my knowledge was active during the mid seventies to late eighties) called Earth Sound Research. Some of their products were strikingly similar to the Sunn 0))) Sceptre/Solarus lines.
So for the longest time I had my history mixed in thinking there was an Earth Sound Reaserch - Earth connection and that Sunn had payed a sort of triple homage to them in naming their band after the amps, as well.

Would be amazing if Earth used Sunns and Sunn used Earths. Someone give Stephen O'Malley a call NOW!

Who the
fuck would call it a NESS? I never heard that but if I did I'd have kicked their ass [at Nintendo]. What was the Super Nintendo? The Sinese?
I hate it when people don't say "Nikey" and rhyme it with bike/like/Mike. At least nobody goes
Nike swiiiishhh though, that's
really what Sunn O))) is like doing.

I hear "Sunn OH" a lot cause like, people aren't prepared to appropriately deal with a symbol that only looks like an O where there
could be an O...
It's like if my name was FrankA*** BUT WAIT. that's not an A it's a tee-pee and those asterisks are stars depicting orion's belt, so don't you dare pronounce it! "Franka".
I doesn't bother me any more than when people pronounce Moog the way it's written instead of MOAG, the way it's
not written. It's like once I called one of my colleagues Mr. Cheeseman because that's the way his name is written and he got all uppity, saying "Chessman, Chessman. It's Chess. Mannn."
I was like: Bad news, pal. EE sounds like EEEEEEEEEE, in English. You're the fucking cheese man, deal with it.

Nice amp. How many watts?
A while back someone sold a concert lead and a 6x12 sunn cab on a swedish message board. I was tempted, but never got it.

if they want me to call anything 'Nikey' then they should have made sure that the last letter in the name was a fuckin 'Y'. and it's a swoosh not a swiiiishhh...

Dont worry benecol, I didn't say Sunn 0))) I just typed it. When i refer to the band or the amps, I simply pronounce "SUN"
Unless someone is not familiar with the sound of the band, then I say "Sun OOOOOOHHHHHHWHWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!"

friend of mine found a concert lead on the side of the road recently. The power cord was cut so he soldered a new one on and it worked perfectly! Sounded killer, especially with an old rat pedal into it.
The Melvins like their Sunn solid state amps.
My band keeps an old SS Acoustic head in the van on tour. Either my bass player or I can use it if one of our tube heads blow.
