Bassman ten: Great amp.
But lets get real here, you're never going to get a working bassman ten for $400 again. It's 2011. every store in the world has eBay.
I'd buy it at $600, if I were in the market.

Sounds pretty "metal" in my opinion when running distortion and fuzz into it. Can't stand the sound of a bass through it.

I think if you wait enough and find one that is dirty you could get it for $400. but prob not.

This one is pristine and in a retail guitar shop. I may be able to get it down to $550, but I doubt any lower.

When I said i'd pick one up for $400 meaning it'd be local/one time deal from someone who needs the money more. $550 is good from a guitar shop, especially if its a smaller one. You wouldn't want to offend mom and pop!

I might be able to juice them a bit if I roll my SS jag bass into the bundle.

Oh wow. I would normally tell you to go for the MIG but as people have pointed out before me, if you can get that Bassman 10 for under 6 bills, you're getting a good deal. Ultimately, a Bassman is a Bassman is a Bassman. Don't dig the 4x10, run it trough another cab. If transportation becomes an issue, buy a headbox and just slide the chassis in. It's really a matter of taste but I really like that particular approach to amplification (meaning Bassmans and variants) for bass applications, myself..

I still fins bassman 10's for 350 to 450 probably at least once or so per month in socal. But there are alwasy alot more deals out here I think.

If it is in brand new shape and is an ealry 70's one it is worth the 600. Espedcially if you could get them to drop down to say 500 out the door... But if they are strict on the price and charging tax then you are looking at close to 650 cash out the door and that may be a bit much. I would not go over 600 out the door unless it is really your dream amp.

They are awesome though. I never had an actual bassman 410 but I had a massman 50 with a marshall 4x10 cabinet and it alwasy sounded tits.

Yeah, it can be pretty regional. Things like this come up maybe twice a year around here if we're lucky... usually far less :P
I think since I started playing guitar more seriously (2003ish?) and buying gear, I've seen maybe 4-5 Twin Reverbs, 3ish Bassmans and 5-7 DeVilles come up for sale in the region... Maybe two Sunns, 6 or so decent Ampegs... pickin's aren't so hot around here :P These are guestimates on memory, but shouldn't be far off the mark :P

Sometimes ya gotta grab what ya find.

One of the reasons that I have found so many good deals on CL over the years is that living where I do, I am in driving distance to all of so cal for the right deal. I can be in San Diego an 40 minutes, Riverside in the same, Orange COunty in about an hour or so, San Bernadino in about an hour, and LA in less than 2. So I literally have 5 different craigslists that I can cehck adds for when I either need something, or have some extra csh laying around and might want to make a little side money flipping some stuff.

Yeah, I'm on the edge of the world... 4.5hr to the next real city, another 3 to the one after that... etc. Makes taking that little trip to check something out into a $100 expense :P

They'd only go to $560 on it. So I put it on layaway instead of buying it flat out. It's pristine though, sounds amazing. Already upgraded to a 3 prong and has casters installed. In about 1-2 months it'll be mine.
