I think it applies to guitar as well. That pretty much describes what I experienced. The flatwounds sounded consistent, so I never felt I need to change them. Rounds always sounded dull or dead so it was obvious they need to be changed.Ankhanu wrote:To a degree, but likely a minor one. I'm speaking from bass experience, rather than guitar (I've never used flats on guitar), but Once flats lose their initial "brightness" (Which happens within about a week of playing), they maintain a fairly consistent tone for years on end. Again, at least with bass, the difference between flats and rounds is pretty astounding.johnnyseven wrote:I would suggest that this was a major factor for the huge variation in sound as well as the type of strings.taylornutt wrote:I got the guitar almost 2 years ago and never changed them out.
Ridiculous with rounds... not unusual with flats (again, bassgaybear wrote:how do folks keep strings on for 2 years!?!
i thought i was bad about changing strings..haha)
I think you may have mentioned this before.taylornutt wrote:I have built 2 guitars in the last year (Baja Tele and Fender Musicmaster) so it has not been used as much.
I like Dads for some things. On short scales I do tend to love them. For everything else I'm slowly switching to GHS. GHS just seems to make more balanced and flexible strings.othomas2 wrote:Personally I don't like d'daddario's though... too buzzy and shrill.

What?Dave wrote: Anyways I'm going to drop a bomb here. SORRY SHORTSCALE I'M GOING DOWN TO 11s to 10s ON MY JAG. Thicker strings sound 'thunky' on shortscales and I personally dislike the feel. THERE I SAID IT. I'll use tens on fullscale still oddly...

I always use 10s on short scales. I use 9.5s or 9s on standard scale, too. :>Dave wrote:Anyways I'm going to drop a bomb here. SORRY SHORTSCALE I'M GOING DOWN TO 11s to 10s ON MY JAG.
