But as I said I can't get my hands on a Ric. The only store that stocks them is a piece of shit place that keeps them 2 storeys high and won't let you touch them unless you look like a bald businessman.

Aesthetically the toasters also look way better but I guess I can deal with that... hah.

I can name an album I know was recorded with a rickebacker with toasters, but now that I think I bet the sound is more definable by their amps and other assorted gear.

Very little of a Rickenbacker's tone has to do with the pickup. I've had them on my bench with PAFs, P-90s, and all sorts of other pickups. They all sounded like Rickenbackers. Change the bridge system to something else though, and they really change. I'm of the opinion that their janky bridge has more to do with their tone then any other single factor.
