Haha, I was thinking kind of the same thing for a second. I imagine(if you wanted to) that'd be fixed by changing the pots. It probably has 500k pots like most HH guitars, so the single coil sounds would probably have too much high end.

Wow, seriously? Out of curiosity, would shoving in 500k pots make it sound "Better" overall? It could just be a mismatch between the pots and the HBs rather than the HBs being "Bad". But generally with HBs more high end is a good thing.

couldn't say. i'm satisfied with the stock sound of mine. 500k pots might make it sound like mud because of the ridiculously high output of the pickups.

95% of all humbucker guitars are 500k pots if they are passive hb's.... no matter the output..... in most cases 1meg pots are to shrill for most people

and 95% of humbuckers don't have a dc resistance of 24k ohms

I think they gave them a crazy resistance so they wouldn't sound thin coil split, and then put in 1 Meg pots so they wouldn't sound too harsh...
Guitars just need better tone knobs I think. A resonance control would be nice.

Tone knobs are pretty old. they came in like before there were proper setings on amps. they have just stuck since then.

Having the tone knob on anything other than 10 (RAWK) or 0 (PSEUDO JAZZ) is against my religion, may as well be a two way switch.

''If it's on guitar, here's the deal.
It had purpose in early ages when players had only guitar and not so great amp.
When it's on full or 10,you have real tone from pickup.
Turning it down you get less high freqs.
It was great feature then.
Today with lots of gear like pedals, preamps etc this pot loses its purpose
but it stays like some witness to the time.
Not on all guitars tho. ''

There are so many guitars on which a tone control is a must that even writing this has me wanting to eat my own fists.
You've obviously never played a Fender Jaguar or Telecaster, or Stratocaster.

Actually what tone controls are really useful for are to improve the "tracking" of effects that do that. Similarly you can have great fun putting a wah pedal in between your guitar and something like a blue box, glitchy arps for all!
The problem with tone controls for me is that they generally just make your guitar sound a bit more muffled. They need a better curve or resonance to them I think.

I've had this for a little over a year now and, for a while,
I was satisfied with the sound of the pickups after I put flat
wound strings on it to mellow the sound. Lately, however,
I've grown to dislike how the more treble range sounds.
It's hard to describe, but there's a chunky, mechanical ringing
to the sound. So I've bought jazzmaster '62 reissue pickups
to swap out soon. It's a fantastic guitar though, plays great.
The Olympic white one has the killswitch if you want teh kurtz.
I'm thinking about getting the electronics reverted back to the
original wiring with the lead & rhythm circuits. The neck, frets
and fret board are all great for me though. Can't go wrong
with the guitar in my opinion.
I am going to buy this guitar now
Haha. You should hear it for yourself though. Like I said, the sound is hard to describe.
It's like trying to describe the color red to a blind person. If you're right about the 1 meg pots,
which would make sense, the sound is probably a combination of the shrill treble and the super high output.

My old strat had come pre modded with one of those TBX tone pots which seems to keep the top end clear.

I've head those are really nice. Those are the ones that can actually brighten as well as darken right?
I think part of the problem with knobs is that most have no indicator of where they are, making them feel purely decorative at times.

playing through a superfuzz makes a tonepoti very usefull - although on gibsons or other humbucking guitars...

I kind of like the CAR a bit more now, so I may consider that, but it'll need a new scratch plate, white is so vanilla. Maybe white? At least a scratchplate is cheaper than pickups.
