I've taken the advice of various focus groups and done a blog featuring some of our stock. I'll aim to photograph our newer arrivals at the weekend and eventually have it perfectly synched so that followers will have advance warning of what to expect and can camp outside to ensure they don't miss out.

Thomas - sorry I missed you the other week. As you'll have found out I do the Saturday shift and my mate does the Sunday.

To all those suggesting stock lists, mail order website, etc. - we might think about that in the fullness of time, but part of our reasoning in going into a bricks'n'mortar operation is to spend less time begging guitar shops for their discarded boxes, hanging around the house all day waiting for couriers to arrive and collect them, then worrying about buyers doing PayPal chargebacks because the reality of owning yet another guitar is outweighed by the stress of paying the credit card bill with their significant other nipping their head about how much they've been spending on new toys they don't even need....and so on.

For now we'd prefer to deal face to face with people who have satisfied themselves that that guitar they like the look of is up to their exacting standards, can hand over the cash on the spot and won't even think of raising the spectre of distance selling regulations.

Then again, if you're at the other end of the country and see a guitar on the blog that you simply MUST have, you can always PM me here and we'll try to accommodate you.

Local thick bikies should note that I've finally got round to digging out my old stock of bike stuff from when I had a bike business and will be peddling some of it alongside the geetars etc.

There's nothing much to write home about, but if you ever need a universal brake or gear cable or a cheap rubber rim tape for 50p you know where to come!

I bought that one from a guy in Marchmont, but I suppose it's possible it had a colourful past on the West coast before he ended up with it. It's away now, anyway, along with quite a few of the others.

I can't really be doing with Facebook any more since they changed it to a timeline thingy, so I've not been very conscientious about keeping it up-to-date.

So....today is our last day of trading at The Barras. I'd say it's our location wot did for us rather than recession, but maybe it was a combination of the two.

shame, hope it's something you can make a go of elsewhere. a guy i know who runs a studio on dixon street (i assume that's where it is- it's called dixon street studios after all) mentioned the ground floor of that building is empty and has space for rent.

We're doing a car boot sale tomorrow (Ayr Racecourse) and probably a few more over the next few weekends to try to clear our remaining stock. The cheap stuff that's not worth eBaying might end up in a bricks'n'mortar auction room - we'll have to see how it goes over the summer.

Thomas - I'll PM you in the next few days with details of anything I think might be of interest to you.

Stewart - thanks for the tip, but it'll be a while before I consider paying rent to (maybe, maybe not) sell stuff offline again. In economic terms, eBay is a far better bet as it's more-or-less zero-risk on the Buy It Now option and okay or better as an auction venue for stuff which you know is always going to sell for a decent amount.

When we invested in a bricks'n'mortar pitch our hopes were that a) stuff would sell for enough to make it worth our while bothering, b) there would be a reasonably quick turnover so we would be able to reinvest in new, interesting stock and c) people would start bringing in nice guitars to us. In practise none of that happened and the dispiriting reality was we could only sell the cheapest of the cheap in the majority of cases, and not even enough of that to make it worthwhile.

I wouldn't rule out trying something similar somewhere else at some point, but for now I'll be content just to make back as much as I can from the stock we've invested in over the last year.

Damn, I never knew you guys were there. When I nip through to Glasgow I usually check out GuitarGuitar, the Cash Generator across from it, then head down to Strung Out. You guys weren't that much further down.
