I found a Fender Tele neck Wide Range Humbucker for $60. Is that a good price? It's the cheapest I have seen so far.

It has an output of 8.22K. At first, I thought it was a little too high output, but then I remembered my Jagmaster with JM pups had an 8.4K in the neck.

I weighed both my Jaguar guitars, convinced that the Black Jag was heavier than my AVRI Jaguar. But the AVRI Jaguar actually weighed more.(I did the trusted weigh yourself and weigh yourself with guitar method) It seems like the weight is better distributed on the AVRI Jaguar for some reason. My only guess is the Les Paul hard tail piece really makes the CIJ Jag HH heavier towards the butt of the guitar and makes it feel heavier.

I am considering routing for a Jag trem and covering the hard tail screws with the trem plate. I might have to move the trem plate a little closer to the bridge, but probably not as far as a Classic player Jaguar trem is moved up.

Would it be better to get a CP Jaguar/JM trem to get the screw-in tremolo arm?

if it was me, I would just pull the thimbles out of the body (keep the posts in and remove them with the claw of a hammer), put two dowels in (after spray painting them black) and route the cavity for the trem in the standard position.

that was my doing, the tele I'm sending port.willie has a zune sticker on the back and a breast cancer ribbon one too

I am glad you put an Apple and not a Zune on the Jaguar. Zune would have definitely come off.

Won't the thimbles crack the surrounding wood when you yank on it that hard? Are the thimbles for the Les Paul hardtail glued in or pressure fitted?

I just ordered a Fender WRHB for the bridge position. I am hoping it is big enough so when I enlarge the hole for the WRHB, it cleans up the mess left from the previous pickup.

Edit: I also purchased a Jag trem for possible swap out of the existing hard tail bridge.

You are a lot bette than I am at finishing projects

I've mock'd up the trem plate to cover the tom posts and it looks pretty good, closer to vintage spec than curret ri's

Getting my money from guitar lessons helped me finally get some things moving.

I am trying to decide whether to remove the threaded mounts for the hard tail or route around them and simply cover it with the tremolo plate. I don't mind the trem being a little closer than stock if it's easier fix. The main thing is to keep body work minimal to ensure time rocking is maximum.

edit: The width between the posts matches up with the width of the tremolo plate at it's widest point which means I will probably have to shift it forward a little to completely cover the holes. Not sure I want to deal with filling holes in the body and risking screwing up the paint. It will still be farther back than the CP jag trems. I can't be 100% sure until I get the tremolo and remove the hard tail. I am hoping the Jag trem will help the overall weight of the guitar balance better like my AVRI Jaguar.

Joey - I've actually removed thimbles from a jag hh before - it takes some effort but they will slide out with enough pressure and I didn't crack anything. I'd tape up the surrounding wood however. I think I just used a dinner knife to get under the lip and pull both ends of the knife upwards but I can't reallt rember - just avoid levering against the body really hard - once I cot clearence I think I probably wrapped string around it and pulled, or maybe with some pliers... Done this 3 or four times with some variation on the above!

They're not glued at all. You just have to keep the hammer away from the finish. I've done this quite a few times, and they come out smoothly.

I will give it a whirl. I went ahead and ordered a Jag trem last night so I will attempt the installation when I install the WRHB and rewire the switches. Hopefully these mods will put this Jaguar over the top and balance the weight.

Anyone know the depth of the route for the Jaguar tremolo off the top of your head?

I got the Jag Tremolo and mounting screws in yesterday. Still waiting on the WRHB. I hope to dissassemble and swap out the tailpiece for the Jag trem this weekend.

I need to figure out route placement and depth for the Jag tremolo. Then I can fill the tailpiece mount holes, route the tremolo and install the Jag tremolo.

I also need to level the neck pickup because it is not level and leaning towards bridge.

Update: I got all the parts this week. I tore down the guitar. The hard tail posts came out with almost no effort. Tape and a hammer and it took less that 30 seconds to remove. I made a clever template that goes up against the bridge posts and allows me to drill tremolo mounting holes and trace out the tremolo route cavity. I still need to route the cavity and mount the tremolo. My daughter even helped me take the pickguard off

Does anyone know the router depth for a Jaguar/Jazzmaster tremolo?

I also routed the bridge position for the Wide Range Humbucker and enlarged the hole in the pickguard. Unfortunately I eventually will have to purchase a new pickguard because the hole cut for the Prail was too much on the sides where you mount the WRHB. I need some mounting screws and springs for the Humbucker and then I need to wire it all up.

No. I could move the trem plate forward but It still could show. I am going to fill with black dowels and it should work.
