I'd go with a hot wound alnico 2 single coil - anything above 7k should give you plenty of balls and note definition without muddying up your fuzz situation. The alnico 2's remain really well balanced even when wound really hot. Alnico 5s are a common choice for high output pickups, but to my ears they get gritty at higher windings when combined with lots of distortion.

watch the brostang demo with the dragonfire bridge hotrail and see if that has enough ballz

I think single coils take distortion/overdrive/fuzz better than humbuckers.
They have more definition and their clear tone still shines through with the dirt added.
