hahahaha, this point makes me laugh, but i have played a 64, a 65ri, and a 69ri. the 69 was way more comfy imho. to be fair, the 64 was an a-width 22", and i didn't get along with anything about that guitar (or its owner after a while).
that comp butterscotch is pure sex. i will own one someday, mark my words.

That's nice. I'd prefer it with a Phat Cat but I like it anyway. Actually, Phat Cat and Tele neck pickup.
Slab body looks good, I think.

I can't decide if I like contours or slab bodies more. Contours are more comfortable for sure, but there is something perfectly 'student' about a slab mustang or musicmaster. I think if I had a gaudy Competition Mustang with matching headstock and shiney chrome then I would want contours. but for a regular colour, no contours are more fun.

1. The dollar is weak.
2. FMC cracking down on imports has driven up the prices on FMJ stuff.

They used to be around $600 about 5 years ago, I was looking at getting one then. A mild increase in price in yen, coupled with weak dollar vs yen, gives us $1000 Mustangs.
Why do you think I'm so protective of my MIJ Jag? I cannot replace that damn thing anymore. I really want to pick up a second to do some mods to but the price is so insane.

It's sad, but it's true. I'd take the bound one in the middle right now - DO YOU HEAR ME FMC? RIGHT NOW!! But alas, you no can haz in the USA.
IMHO, if Fender was smart, they'd recognize that there is a demand for those models in the USA and Europe, and if they're not willing to import them directly, they should find a way to license their export from dealers in Japan. That way, everyone wins. Most people would probably still rather buy from a local dealer or a mail order place in their own country (for the warranty if nothing else), so it's not likely to eat into domestic sales all that much. Fender dealers in Japan could get a few extra sales, Fender Japan gets to strut their stuff a bit, and people in Europe and the Americas can get the guitars they want, and that our friends in Asia already have access to, and FMC gets to put a few extra licensing bux in their pockets.
It makes too much sense, so I doubt it will ever happen. Sucks, doesn't it?

Just yesterday I signed up for a Japan parcel forwarding service. Now that I know I can do it, it's harder to resist.
