You can just about get away with two necks if you are in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, even the it isn't cool exactly.
Also you have to have been in the heartbreakers for at least 20 years. You will still look like a dick if you started jamming with them tomorrow.

I love my eds1275. Put a vibrola on the 6 string. The added mass of the body makes it sound like an SG with a little more sustain like a LP. And I prefer the sound of the 12 to a Rick.

Hmmm.
Is the negativity because of prior association with a sort of pompous style of music? Or is it because they are somewhat impractical, almost unnecessary and expensive?
They're one of those sort of things I used to hate the idea of. But recently I've started to think why not? The Gretsch and Italia ones are pretty cool. And it's not like I'm in a prog rock band. I'd be playing Death From Above sort of shit on them. I guess I like the idea of subverting them. I blame Fran for letting me play his classic BC Rich ages ago. It was fucking great. I'd totally have a guitar that played and sounded that good. And if so many guitarists are happy to play pointy ass metal guitars or flamed maple nightmare PRS guitars then why not a nice, classy Gretsch double neck?

here's one I saw in a shop in summer during the holidays. Features two Strats. I didn't try if the tuning was different on them though.

The only practical use of a double neck is one that has a guitar and bass on it because then you can play "Jack and Diane" all by yourself.
