For what its worth Kim, nowadays the guitarist of Fu Manchu uses a BBE Soul Vibe, which is a Uni-Vibe in a box. This is a different kind of phasing than most people think of when they generically use the term Phaser. The original Uni-vibes even referred to the sound settings as Chorus/Vibrato.

So you might be looking for more like a Uni-Vibe in a box. Although, I did see that (live) he has used Phase 90s and Phase 100s in the past.

This post has a good review of some of the phasers we mentioned and mentions Fu Manchu:

yeah i saw that about fu manchu, the bbe hmm... i kind of think it may be just endorsement, it seems so subtle in demos.
but the boss is too much.

fulltone dejavibe, univibe ? pricey tho.

chorus vibrato, redwitch has one. need to check its sound.

i saw wampler nirvana chorus...lols. mustn't !! i must admit hearing the leads on come as you are and smells like..that sound does sound way tempting tho. mustn't. hahaha.

To much as in too much money or too much PHASE?

Cause I've seen them go for £40-60, which isn't much.

The Behringer Vintage one I wouldn't even consider. Why?

Because of this asshole:

(And it looks like shit.)

Everyone seems to like the evh mxr phaser, even people who don't like van halen.

The MXR reissue Phase 45 is a much more subtle phaser, with the rate turned up it sounds a little like a chorus/vibrato. I think, although I don't know as i've never played one, it sounds like a Univibe or at least like a Gilmour-type sound. I like it though.

Yeah, that's a fantastic pedal for what it does...

yeah, all the other demos on the 'tube sucked so I figured I'd make my own. after messing around with it to make the demo I kind of realized that it probably wasn't what you were after but figured it was worth sharing anyway.

i like the sounds in the demo no doubt, but it doesn't give me those vibes i'm after. ohgod did i just say that ? well i can't explain, just a sound in my head..and on some records. but a combination of both fu manchu's use and nirvana's use (which is chorus flanger yes i know). i've broadened my search to those too.

If you are going the MXR route, it has to be this pedal. For me it beats the crap out of any of the others in their range. More flexible, sounds really great and it looks bitchin' in that crazy paint work. Others I'd suggest.. Polyphase because of the flexibility, Roger mayer voodoo-vibe+ because its amazzzinggg fun or some of the old arion stuff, because they are cheap and sound great.

Or you could go bananas and get the Effector 13 Whetstone Phaser: it's like the best thing I've ever seen and I want one sooooo much.
