it's really, really hard to say. I've seen some MIJ strats w/ lace sensors and a locking nut go for $250. It seems like the MIJ/CIJ RIs fetch a lot more however.
I would say you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a RI tele that was made in Japan for less than 500. It can be done for sure, but not every day.

Not a chance.
Yeah, maybe I should have used capitalization in my first post: IF the guy's telling the truth.
Conventional wisdom is on James' side.
It's still a sweet guitar, but hard to drop that kind of cash if there's a doubt in your mind.

i bet it plays perfectly fine. i'd pay that much for it and put a different guard on it/get rid of that humbcukersz.
i have a weakness for japanese tele necks. buy a 3TS squier CV and put an esquire guard on?

^^ that is sweet. is that the stock pup, or something else? the one thing that has kept me from a cv tele is i can't decide if i like the pups or not.

stock alnico 5. it sounds great, but i will inevitably put a hot rail in. the alnico 3 that's in the cv 50's is super sweet, too.

nice, i'm going to give the cv tele another go ... along with the vm jazz. one of these is in my future, i think.

the CV custom (basically the one with the RW) neck is fantastic. i love it to bits, and it will be my main guitar once i get it set up with .12's.
i will also be buying one of the VM jazzmasters in blonde/maple next (relocated three way switch, no stacked pots, and pickguard mounted output/sticker over strat jack). honeyiscool sent me a toronado bridge that will be right at home on it.

yes, we've talked about the blonde/maple jm before and i'd like to do similar modds. i just need a real reason to get another guitar (or 2).
goddamn pragmatism. gets me every time.

quick update.
so i tried this guitar earlier today and the neck felt like two woods. the damaged part was actually quite smooth, almost like a satin finished which i like. i haven't owned a satin neck guitar.
so i went home and ordered a j mascis jazzmaster.

it does play perfectly fine. i'll definitely get a better condition one in the future. it's a good guitar by all means.

if you ever wanna let go of that for a 50's "esquiered" CV, lemme know.
