Yeah, I spoke to him on the phone and he seemed to know what he was doing, so I took a risk. Gambler!

ok, it took me until last night to get the chance to use this at a rehearsal, and my thoughts are as follows:

- i'm used to clanging jaguar (semi) clean sounds, and obviously this thing doesn't have that kind of bite straight off. some EQ and pedal tweaking ensued, still sounded a bit lifeless in that respect. the bridge pickup is pretty flabby on the bottom end when it's clean, might consider a replacement with something a bit tighter. no idea what that might be or how to find out.

- however, it sounds fucking AMAZING at high gain.

- the neck pickup through my current setup (involving a split through an octaver and into a bass amp as well as the usual gubbins) just about blew my head off. the bones in my ears were vibrating so much it tickled my brain. shame i never use neck pickups in a live situation. if i ever join Sunn O))) (unlikely) i'll be using this thing. SHEESH

that's about it!

Have to agree. I remember going straight into a cranked Marshall JCM 900 at a studio and the sound was amazing, like the classic sound you've heard on many old Rock records. It would have been criminal to put an fx pedal between the guitar and amp.

For humbuckers i thought they were quite good clean, i think they measure about 9k. Still, completely different beast to the Jaguar.

yeah, they're not bad, but obviously i'm used to a completely different sound. you forget how much ringing comes from behind the bridge on a jag too, things feel a bit empty without it!

Two different guitars but I get a similar thing with the JM & the SG, but I do like the bridge clean or slightly over driven on the SG but it really comes into its own with fuzz in my book :D

Nope, saddle retainer wire as on vintage Gibson abr-1s and import-style tuneomatics. It holds the saddles down, whereas previous ABR TOMs didn't have anything doing that and later "harmonica" and "nashville" style TOMs in the US had them going into holes in the metal, which is more stable.

that seems like a better design, right enough.
