I got my all original 1966 Jaguar for considerably less than they're aiming to sell these for
LOL
LOL
Okay, so binding, "reformulated" colors, and new pickups. I'm still not seeing where that extra $600 is going, but whatever...BearBoy wrote:Well, according to their marketing blurb:dren68 wrote:What I don't understand is why someone would pay THAT much more for essentially the same guitar. The only difference is the bound neck and some new fancy schmancy lacquer, right?
The pickups are listed in the specs as being "New American Vintage '65 Jaguar® (Neck)/(Bridge)" so I guess they differ from the '62 AVRI ones.Fender Marketing Blurb wrote:Rather than just replacing the previous models with different ones, we’ve completely and comprehensively re-imagined the entire vintage-reissue concept—restoring original tooling dies, voicing new pickups, reformulating vintage colors and more—based on actual vintage guitars we tracked down to make sure we had it right. We did the work, and it shows, because there’s pure tonal magic in each new American Vintage instrument.
The '62 AVRIs have disappeared from the Fender website so it looks like they probably are being replaced.dren68 wrote:I just hope these aren't replacing the 62 AVRIs. If they are, I might have to get another one (or 3).
This does create a pretty sizable gap between the AVRI and CP range. Wonder if an American Standard Jag might be around the corner?
No, but it looks FUCKING AWESOMEdren68 wrote:Someone on the OSG forum said that they should getting more colors eventually, although it's still not worth that ridiculous price. Plus, what's the big deal about binding? Does it make a difference in the way it sounds?dots wrote:dude. . . my avri jag was worth the $1200 or so i paid for it new 7 years ago, but there's no way adding binding to it makes the value somehow climb to double that. the build quality is superb, the parts are all top shelf, and it's just a great all around instrument, arguably worth north of a grand (no, sorry, not a single squier i have played even approaches it). but $2400 to add binding, and you get only two colors to choose from?
do one, fender.
Me neither. Must be that "tonal magic"...dren68 wrote:I'm still not seeing where that extra $600 is going, but whatever...
Totally, and if you're willing to go for a vintage with a couple of changed parts or a refin you can get them even cheaper. My '67 has other vintage Jag parts (they're actually older) and one more recent, tho vintage voiced pickup and that was under £900 including shipping from the US.Mike wrote:I got my all original 1966 Jaguar for considerably less than they're aiming to sell these for

A friend at work saw an original 1960s Tele on sale near where we live for around the same price that the '64 RI is likely to go for. Which is my main issue with the pricing of these: it doesn't make a lot of sense if you can find an original.Thomas wrote:Totally, and if you're willing to go for a vintage with a couple of changed parts or a refin you can get them even cheaper. I put together my CAR '64 Jag for about a quarter of what these are priced at.
BearBoy wrote:Yeah, dread to think what that price would translate to here in the UK. The existing AVRIs were c£1500 so about a $1 = £1 conversion...
Edit: They've got them up at Musician's Friend now:

Jazzmaster: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ ... ric-guitar
* Vintage accurate pickups wound to period-correct specs and sound

Nah... not really. I just meant I understood that there were a few more differences than I initially thought there were. At first, it seemed like they just slapped a bound neck on an AVRI. I still think they're WAY overpriced. I'm not sure why so many people are freaking out over them when you could buy a vintage one for about the same price. I guess because it's something new.Mike wrote:haha you fell for the advert!
No worries. I'm just hoping they've got the right fucking shade of amber for the JM's switch tips.dots wrote:sorry, not directed at you, just the description on musiciansfriend's site. all that "period correct" nonsense is quite the meme around here.
