I play mostly Blues, a fairly limited genre. From dirty old Hound Dog Taylor style to Blues-Rock and some power-pop. I love my neck pup and haven't discovered yet everything it can do. But for some tunes, I still need that sharper, higher, cleaner tone of the bridge. I just couldn't be happy, or versatile, with just one pup.

Unless you have several axes that give you lots of options and ya don't mind taking em along when ya jam, I wouldn't invest in a single pickup guitar.

I don't know if it is all that "most" important, actually. It's just a Musicmaster, considered by most as Fender's beginner/student
model that gets an "F" grade for collectibility on the vintage guitar collector sites.

Maybe it is 'just' a musicmaster (i assume from your username that you like 'em ) but I can't see the sense in scooping wood out of a guitar they stopped making decades ago, at a time when two-pickup fenders are available and affordable in just about every conceivable configuration.

As for the collectors: well if, for whatever reason, they're going to leave one tiny corner of Fender history for those of us with plenty of love but not much cash, I reckon we ought to look after it.

Looking at a different thread you mentioned it in, it's an 81, so won't be routed for two pickups already.

I really don't think it's a big deal to route it for a bridge pickup or cut a hole in the pickguard. It's not a rare model, colour or anything else like that to give it 'extra' value and you're not going to be doing anything to it that could be described as destroying a vintage instrument like this.

Just go with what you think will make you enjoy the guitar the most.

I know it's not strictly on-topic, but damn I love my Musicmaster.

Yeah I like mine, but I liked it a lot more after I added the second pickup and routed the body and pickguard for a toggle switch!

And then frankly I grew disenchanted with the neck radius and small frets, which led me to eventually get my CP Jaguar, which I currently play a lot more.

But that MMII still sounds great.
