Looks like the Super-Sonic is back (also MIM Bass VI)

Totally: they keep seeing all the cool stuff that Squier and fender japan do, then port it over for inflated prices. It's really fucking annoying. US fender is bollocks. Fender Japan is the dogs bollocks. Squier is the dogs gold plated bollocks. MIM is just kind of Meh, though I'll give them a pass for the incredible CP Jags

i agree mim aren't worth shit now there's the classic vibe range
im sure its a cost thing that squier don't get unusualy "good" guitars. keep them straight up strat and teles you can knock off simply. having said that we just got the mustangs/jag/jazzies so i dunno. blates cashing in then i guess, also the '51 got reissued with a fender stamp as they were going for silly money

Never mind all that, why oh why oh why must Fender always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? They reissue the VI (hoorah!), then they stick a horizontal strat switch on it (oh...). Not content with that though, they decide to stick a Jazzmaster bridge pickup on it (harumph). Because, you know, Jazzmasters are famous for their fantastic bridge pickup toanz.
I think Fender's R&D department consists of a copy of this book:

With the big Fender logo on the headstock it will likely be MIM or US manufactured and street price will end up $700-800 MIM or $1200-1700 US. If they end up Squier I would expect to pay $300-400. I hope they turn out to be Squier so poor blokes like myself can own them.George wrote:I wonder if Fender has seen the ridiculous price that super sonics are going for on ebay then

Both straight or both angled, either way is preferable to the bridge angled/neck straight on the original - it totally throws off all the lines in the design. In an ideal world I'd see a humb version with two straight pups and a singles version with two angled robroes.James wrote:To me it just looks like they let the work experience kid loose with MS paint. It's MIM and will have a street price of $800 which is ridiculous.speedfish wrote:With the big Fender logo on the headstock it will likely be MIM or US manufactured and street price will end up $700-800 MIM or $1200-1700 US. I like the reverse angled pickups: Visually, it flows better. And I prefer the sound of a reverse angled pickup.James wrote:I love the original super sonic but the pickups on this look shit.Dave wrote:Both pickups angled works better visually. There, I said it. To me they just sound a bit more balanced, especially with drop D or open tunings. The low string isn't overpowering.
I'm not 100% sold on angled humbuckers though, I used hotrails on mine.
Either Fender is being dicks or they're doing Jagmasters in colors other than red and they haven't announced it yet because it's not as exciting as the other new things they have coming out.
I say this because if you look on the menu at the top of the page for guitars, it shows a red Jagmaster.

You'll also notice they have the Jaguar special HH in red as well. Fender Japan has had a bunch of colors of that instead of the boring black with chrome so it looks like America may be getting new colors finally.daftsupernova wrote:Either Fender is being dicks or they're doing Jagmasters in colors other than red and they haven't announced it yet because it's not as exciting as the other new things they have coming out.

Also the Fiesta Red/Lake Placid Blue version of the Cobain Mustang no longer have the black pickup cover for the single coil. Instead it's white and looks really bad now. And they no longer are letting you register for the free red SLTS vinyl.
Totally, I've been planning a trip to Japan and I was thinking of buying one of the Japanese reissues when I'm there but now I'm thinking this might be the better option. Hopefully they're quality.singlepickup24 wrote:Right? Pretty sure that's how at least half the board felt when that pic became public...Kurbis wrote:Oh my god
I've wanted a Bass VI for so long.
If I couldn't get a VI I was gonna resort to one of the Gretsch Jet Baritones. But I guess now I won't have to.

still, stuff could be fiddled about with and made right. if it's MIM it'll still cost a fair old whack, the way fender's prices are at the moment.
