Yeah, it joins the ranks of the original run '51 of being a Fender port of a Squier model... which was a different take on things to start. Given that the Pawn Shop series started with Fender building it's own branded copy of an oddball Squier, the new Supersonic fits right into that spirit.

It's twice as loud and bass heavy as my mustang bass. And really, folks, have we all forgotten about a pot change? FOR SHAME.
TOO MUCH BASS IN MY BASS!!! NEED MORE CLANK!
Actually it doesn't sound too bad in the demos, with a distortion pedal and a pot change (at most) I should be able to strangle and AmRep sound out of it.

a lot of people here weren't old enough to be around when the super sonic first came out.
the thing was a 600 dollar squier on the rack. no one bought it because it had a squier sticker on the headstock. you could get a mexican fender strat in 1996 for 300 bucks. why in fuck's name would you get a squier for twice that?
little did anyone know that it was built in the same factory on the same assembly line as the classic series (mij) mustang, jaguar, jazzmaster, and jagstang.
so this new Fender super sonic II or whatever you want to call it costing around 700 or 800 street retail isn't really that bad a price. its only 100 bucks more than it was 15 years ago.
or you can look at it like you are paying 100 dollars more for a fender sticker. which is what I am doing.

Eh... Those could for sure be picked up new in the $350-400 range not long after their release. I'd have bought one then but I was dirt poor in those days.

i cant compare labor and machines from the current mexican plant and the plant in japan 15 years ago.
i can only compare the final product.
all's i know is i have been waiting for the mustang special to drop like a rock in price because its made in mexico now and it hasn't. and probably won't. which sucks because wouldn't mind having one of those for 300 bucks.

completely wrong. I got mine at HOG in 2002 for 400. it was brand new, never left the sales floor since 1996. i bought a brand new 6 year old guitar at a 200 dollar discount because people still wouldn't pay 400 bucks for a squier in 2002

WE created demand for the supersonic over the years posting photo after photo after photo after fucking photo. by posting clips of no name fucking bands like At-The Drive In and some dude named Omar playing one upside down covered in tape. no one even knew what the fuck it was back then before jag-stang.com and other homegrown guitar websites like it started to give it publicity along with making the entire Vista line some kind of holy grail status on the internet.

for a DECADE we asked fender to make more oddball shit, more colors, more choices.
and now when they are at the brink of collapse we have ALL THIS CRAZY SHIT coming out the last 2 years, all at once, all of it overpriced in our eyes because they waited too long. 1996 robroe with his first job and NO BILLS was asking for new models to blow money on. somewhere between 1996 and 2013, robroe taught himself how to upgrade a gutiar without the need of the factory fresh model coming out costing 4x times what I can teardown and reconstruct better myself. AND NOW I GOT SHITLOADS OF BILLS
there is no baby boomer generation with shitloads of money to blow learning guitar because they saw CC Deville on MtV. there is no MTV. Generation X and Y are poor as fuck. hell I'm doing ok and to the accountants at fender I am "poor as fuck" because I cant afford all this new shit that they are putting out because I asked for it every day for a decade.
thats the problem.
people like mike, and aen started thier own companies twiddling with wires for a living, and it all started from fender not making what they wanted in a guitar 15 years ago.

personally I'm really happy with the chances they are taking. I, or rather my wallet, just wish they were taking those chances in the squier line more so than the fender line.

Ditto.
I LOVE seeing some effort to make something other than the big-4... even if I don't necessarily like everything they've chosen to do. It's fantastic seeing some chances and creativity.

Very well said! Fender and squire are both coming out with so many awesome things that I want and was asking for years ago and now I can't afford any of it once they finally do come out with it because of bills n shit.

I'm really glad you went it. That's what happened to me, I stalled probably an extra week or two more than you did and it ended up as pneumonia.

Seen the MUDSTANG bass (in a UK shop) for £601. Not too bad. I was thinking maybe £650, so it's a little better than I was expecting. Not sure if I want it though at that price...

I'd take this beautiful bastard all day over that thing at half the price.

Ah. I don't like the sparkles. Or the black headstock. Or the black pickup. The price is better though I agree.
